Malaria is a M*********er of a disease. The article is very wrong about effective treatments being within our grasp. As public health resources and systems continue to fall apart throughout the tropical world the foot race between AIDS, Malaria, and TB will continue to heat up. The human population of the world far exceeds the carrying capacity. As a doctor I feel like I'm trying to sweep water off a beach with a Tsunami about two miles offshore...

When I was in Vietnam, I got tired of having diarrhea every week because of the "Sunday" horse pill, so I quit taking them! Since I was only getting bit about 10,000 times a night sitting on ambushes, I thought I was safe. NOT! 10% of my company came down with malaria in one day. Tough guys were asking me to shoot them so they would feel better. Hell, a street junkie never ate pills as fast as I did after that. Thank God, I skated being infected.

He, he, he, that's a first. Most of my friends just call me stupid for walking away from the $$ in the city and building a clinic in a poor backwater (one doc in a county larger than Connecticut and Rhode Island combined). Come on out, we can always use an extra pair of hands.

PS Please bring some Diabetes medicine with you. We don't do the government medicaid scam thing, so we are usually short of supplies.
PPS Malthus, Thomas Robert. 1766-1834 British economist who wrote An Essay on the Principle of Population (1798), arguing that the population tends to increase faster than food supply, with inevitably disastrous results, unless the increase in population is checked by moral restraints (yeah, right) or by war, famine, and disease.
I'm flattered, and humbled by the comparison.

JCN: As a college prof, I've been reporting to students about the university studies explaining the overpopulation. Seems one of the universities in Sweden decided to prove the theory false. Oops, their research agreed!
