Conventions are happening in Vegas. McCarren airport is very busy. Don’t think the governor wants to shutdown again. In my opinion it would need to be a really serious set of circumstances to close Vegas down again.

Vegas is 3.5 hours drive from me. Personally, it doesn't matter as much if some outfitters can't make it. I am already booked for hunts in Zimbabwe and Zambia for 2022. I want to go to talk to optic and firearms manufacturers.

DSC I am waiting before I book flights, already have a place to stay due to having family in Keller.

Someone sent me pictures from the TX State Fair today . The phrase ghost town comes to mind . What does that mean for DSC if anything? I don’t know . I wish I did .

I want both to happen. Hopefully they both will happen.

Saturday, October 2, the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta starts, this being a large international event, it will be interesting to see what the attendance numbers will be. In the past the event has averaged around 100,000+ spectators a day with some days hitting 150K. The projected attendance is between 800K and 900K for the 9 days.

This is the first year that we have not had visitors to come in to attend the fiesta. So the attendance numbers will be interesting to watch.

The attendance numbers are not in, however the parking lots were full.

Watching the event unfold on TV, it was shoulder to shoulder attendees.

If that is any indication the SCI & DSC convention should have a good attendance.

I did miss a few international balloons that normally attend. Balloon's from South America, New Zealand, Europe and the Middle East.

ACL?

Yes, that’s a huge event. It’s more of a festival than a concert.

No. A concert at the Germania Ampitheater.

Wonderful. I looked up ACL to see what, if any, requirements are needed for entry. As expected, proof of vax, or negative test.

For those curious, ACL (Austin City Limits) is one of the largest music festivals spanning eight days or something.

I would assume the Kay Bailey CC will have similar requirements being a City of Dallas owned facility.

From what I’ve heard from former co-workers in the City, I’m afraid you might be correct. Dallas Stars are requiring proof of vaccination or negative test within 48 hours to enter AA Center. Main problem I foresee is when Mr Biden announces in November which vaccines are approved for entry into the US and what other restrictions he might impose. I also wonder how many parents will take school age children to an international event? I hope this crap gets worked out before exhibitors have to pay nonrefundable deposits in early December.

It really is a conundrum. I assume it’s a long term contract with the city for a minimum amount of space. Penalties may be assessed should it not meet a minimum amount of space. Is there a force majuere clause and does a pandemic even qualify? Is there insurance? Who knows?

Karl, those are just hypothetical questions and not directed at you.

Something had to have happened with the 2021 convention cancellation, but that was pre-vaccine and opening of the borders for travel (Rio Grande excluded). I believe I read somewhere that an organization made more from their insurance policy than they typically would have hosting a convention.

Of course, we all want the convention to happen for the purpose of conservation and also for the camaraderie.

Let’s just all hope it happens.

So today (10-15-2021) the F. Joe Biden administration announced that VACCINATED Foreign Nationals may now come to the USA.

Is this in time to help show attendance? Are all you outfitters out there now going to attend SCI/DSC and all the various shows this season?

Are all vaccines acceptable including the Chinese vaccine?

It looks like Canadians can now cross the border by land as of November 8th if fully vaccinated. Having said that, we were being told that the US was not going to allow people who had mixed vaccinations. So if someone had Moderna for one vaccination and Phizer for a second they were not going to be able to cross. As far as I know, as of this morning, that is still the case. It is also worth noting that AstraZenica is not approved in the US, which is unfortunate as lots of Canadians were vaccinated with it. Hopefully these loose ends will all get cleared up in the very near future.

Most of the Phs in SA Namibia and Zim that I’ve had dealings with have had the Chinese vaccines as that’s all that they could get.

This won’t be a permitted vaccine for entry.

So I wouldn’t get my hopes up for a full show circuit just yet.

Solution for them is to fly to Mexico and then cross the border illegally, for those vaccine is not required. Wink
