https://www.motor1.com/news/49...peculiar-functional/ LINK HAS NUMEROUS PHOTOS OF THE HUNTING VEHICLE 1973 Mohs SafariKar Is Equal Parts Peculiar And Functional Mar 21, 2021 1m ago By: Matthew Crisara The weirdest hunting vehicle you’ve never heard of. While most petrolheads will have never heard of the Mohs SafariKar, that’s ok because it’s actually quite a hidden gem. Originally introduced in 1973, this monstrosity is one of three prototypes built to be a safety-oriented vehicle for hunting big game in Africa. While EPA requirements put a damper on the automobile leaving the prototype stage, it’s quite a peculiar beast. Rather unsurprisingly, inventor and entrepreneur Bruce Baldwin Mohs came up with the idea to build the ultimate hunting companion. After great success with ideas such as the instant milkshake, highway barrier reflectors, and a coating to prevent television tubes from imploding, he wanted to dip a toe into the automotive industry. The vehicle itself is built on the underpinnings of a 1969 International Harvester Travelall frame. However, contrary to the timeless aesthetic of the base vehicle, the SafariKar features aluminum-tungsten alloy bulkheads wrapped in aluminum panels – which were then padded with polyurethane foam and wrapped in black Naugahyde. Adding to the 70s folklore of this vehicle, it also boasts a pair of sliding doors for easy ingress and egress. Thanks to its IH internals, it keeps the same 392 cubic-inch V8 under the hood, fed by a four-barrel Holley carburetor. Bring a Trailer was quick to note that the included literature reports the power output as adequate. And that’s actually not a big deal, because this vehicle focuses on creature comforts. The front compartment features three-abreast seating with a trio of Solar Automotive Products Baja Bucket seats, which Mohs modified to pivot and compensate for centrifugal force. Also included in the cockpit is an AM/FM radio along with a CB unit. Most importantly, the SafariKar comes with an airconditioning system, which isn’t currently operational on this prototype – quite surprising as the five-digit odometer shows approximately 60 miles. The current bid for the automobile stands at $33,333 (€27,897 at current exchange rates) and looks to be a hot topic on the Bring a Trailer site – with over 20,000 views and close to 300 comments. For those who are interested, bidding ends on Friday, March 26 at 3:30 pm so act fast! After driving an IH Scout II for years, that rig looks like it could be about Scout II long, much shorter than the Travellall. My Scout had the V8, 4WD, auto tranny, ect and was lacking only with rear doors, so as my kids grew, I replaced it with a Yukon with similar equipment ( bigger, faster, quieter, much more cargo room, nice leather interior, etc.}. Still driving the big GM SUV models. NRA Life Benefactor Member, DRSS, DWWC, Whittington Center,Android Reloading Ballistics App at http://www.xplat.net/

If Trump was a hunter he would most likely have the nicest toys. Absolute shame the idiot we now have in office and all he has placed in political positions. The end of the USA is what Biden and his chronies want and they will lie, cheat and steal to destroy America and its freedom. Unbelievable anyone cannot see the corruption in not only Biden and his friends and his family but in most all of the US government, both left and right sides of politics, but how corrupt Washington, DC is, well it is almost unbelievable. I hunted in Bangweulu Swamp with Andrew in 2004. We stayed at what then was called Shoebill camp. It was the worst excuse for a Safari camp that EVER existed. The tents were raggedy old pieces of shite. The pit toilets were about 30 yards from the well. The food was an utter disaster. As to the OP's question. The vehicles were a couple of old pieces of junk. One was IIRC an old Hi-lux pick-up with the cab removed with a sawzall. The other, I cannot remember. However, I do remember Andrew robbing the alternator off of one and affixing it to the other. He also repaired the master cylinder in some manner that I do not remember. I think it involved thread. One of the resident trackers (Paxton) insisted we go to a place far into the swamp, where he had identified a large Bull Sitatunga that lived in peace. We drove a very long way and portered our camp in the rest of the way. We set up camp and walked to the palm island he insisted we go. There at the island lay a campfire, not from very long ago. Andrew questioned Paxton and he insisted he had taken no one in there before us. Andrew seemed to accept that as the truth. As we entered a make-shift blind in this island, there on the ground lay a .300 Winchester Magnum empty. At that point, those of you who have seen Andrew "a bit upset" will attest, gets your attention, fired Paxton, and told him he had to walk back to Shoebill camp. Some of this is a bit foggy due to many years gone by. Maybe Andrew can fill in the details. But the hunting vehicle question was what brought this back to mind. Formerly "Nganga"

Hi Steve, I found a big Sitatunga on an earlier foray and told Paxton to keep it a secret which of course he did not. The facilities at Shoebill were terrible but at least we made one car from two. Do you guys remember seeing a safari car built out of a Roller and a FJ? I think it was Kerr and Downy or Cottars in the 1990s?

I dunno....back in the '70s, in the CB radio craze, we had about 40 trucks around a section hunting coyotes in the snow. we'd get them running and shoot at them. Doesn't seem especially smart now - having that many guys around a square mile shooting at each other, but it was fun.. Two guys in a Datsun 280Z joined in. Jeff

I guess you're right again. It must just be my lack of African hunting experience and not really understanding the dynamics of Safari. Oh, and thank you for your explanation of the word Safari. I'm always amazed at what can be learned on AR. Formerly "Nganga"

Sorry Steve, but on various threads, you just don't like anything. Surely there's something positive you can focus on. I say that in all seriousness. We all need something positive in our lives. Sometimes we all find we have to look pretty hard to find it, but they're there. Wish you the best and hope things look up soon. PM me if you want.
