A few weeks ago, I was referred here by a friend to learn a few things about hunting Africa and to enjoy some higher level discussion about the shooting sports.
Have learned a few things, but the higher level discussion is sorely lacking...for the most part, what I have found is immature, disrespectful banter in a vain attempt to justify each individual's position on a given topic. This 45-70 thing is just one example. Gatehouse, you are probably the biggest asshole of them all...GROW UP and realize that we don't have the luxury of kicking each other around like a bunch of drunk idiots. If any anti-gunner, anti-hunter, tree-hugger or any liberal with an agenda visited here looking for ammunition to prove us for the low-life morons they think we are, they would find more than they would need in the first few threads!
I'll get my information elsewhere...I'm just sorry I wasted so much of my time trying to wade through all the BS to find a decent soul to converse with on a few topics.
To those few who were a great help, I offer thanks...to the majority of you arrogant punks: Grow up and get a life! You are an embarrassment to real sportsmen!!!

"Most" is a pretty broad brush to paint with. There are a few people involved with bitter disagreements on these boards but they are a very small minority. "Most" of the people on these boards are here reading about and engaged in discussions without any of the petty name calling and language that you seem to enjoy using.
Arguing on the internet is like trying to teach a pig calculus. All that it does is frustrate you and irritate the pig!

You don't know what parody is?
Maybe you should research the history of the 45-70 threads here on AR before you start calling people 'assholes.' I'm sure that anyone who has been here for a little while got the joke...Maybe it is you that needs to grow up a bit.

RHS - You are absolutely right and at the same time, absolutely wrong. It's the proportion you haven't sorted out, as yet. No one with 10 posts could possibly do so. Stick around a while ... it will pay off.
RHS, I usually stay out of any discussions like this.I just think RHS you might have gotten the wrong image about this forum as I know I have been here awhile, and the gentlemen here are very good about helping out others and informing anyone who has question about hunting topics.I think what has happen is many here are just plain tried to death about this 45-70 stuff and would like to address other areas instead of beating a dead horse.I myself have a custom lever and as much as I like them the over all best rifle for Africa is a bolt action, so I think everyone would like to talk more about African hunting than debating on the 45-70. If you hang around you will see there are alot of nice people here. Thanks,Kev

You sound like a man that needs gov't help to protect you.....No gov't help on this site but the principles of gov't help can be applied. I have heard that Nickudu and Saeed are looking at having a system whereby bullshit postings are markedwith an asterisk or similar. Many people can't detect bullshit and the idea Nickudu and Saeed have is to save someone from themselves.
If we take your case, then such a marking on a post would save you reading each and every posting all the way through
Brother...if you are a troll, you are disgrace to all good trolls...if you are not a troll....then.....you obviously need the protection that Nuckudu and Saeed are looking at putting in place.

RHS, it's unfortunate that you feel that way. In true human nature, discussions get heated. Every one of us is entiltled to our own opinion, sensoring us would go against the grain of this very web site. The whole 45-70 debate seemed by design to cook up trouble by outsiders. It is very unfortunate that we can't discuss such topics without resorting to personal attacks. If you don't like what you are hearing, maybe you've wandered into the wrong web site.

RHS, Trolls come and trolls go. I have to admit I've been disappointed by some of the recent threads here as well. The "ignore" button is a Godsend. Use it and it will set you free. Hang around long enough and you will learn which threads and which posters to pay attention to. There is a lot of knowledge and experience here from hunters and Ph's, to gunsmiths and booking agents. Listen, learn and ignore those that piss you off! But no need to be confrontational and accusatory yourself and add any fuel to anyone's fire!
It's a free country. Leave if you want. Don't believe that I'll give up much sleep because of it. I leave for Cameroon on Monday and think we have the best representation of hunters and sportsmen/women available.

Assuming you are not fictitious in any way, the site has prospered where others have failed from its ability to allow free speech. How about that eh? A cliche in actual practice!
Take the thread Mike375 pasted on the other topic, of a 7 page fight that occurred here 3 years ago.It had everyone brawling but no one killed themselves over it.
And even the site owner joined in about page 3 and ran the fun, as he used to back then.
The site didn't explode into fucking flames, the antis didn't march in an take our guns away. None of the PH's boycotted the site.
What more do people want?
To throw off the 'chains of freedom' and settle pet peeves and personal vendettas by censorship?
Karl.

Didnt anyone ever teach you the difference between shit and Shinola?
Jokes aside if you need info and help on African hunting youve come to the right place -these people know what theyre doing and are VERY helpful.

I couldn't resist stirring the pot a bit...was delighted to see that 545 had viewed this post and 18 of you replied. Just seemed like a good place to throw out some nasty bait and see who jumped on it...some jumped hard, others thought about it a little. Call it a practical joke, but it is a great way to quickly learn what kind of folks one is dealing with...this forum is rather opinionated and quite a bit rowdier than most. Africa can do that to ya...I'm just an old Marine who enjoys people's reactions to various situations. Some of you are rather thin skinned...some are much more savvy.
I focused on you "Gatehouse", because you seem to enjoy playing this game, was looking forward to your reaction, you didn't disappoint...I'm sure you are a decent sort and well versed in the shooting sports. No real harm intended. Peace, brother...
I do a similar rendition when I get into a base camp the first night. Like to know who I'm dealing with on safari too...
There was a guy on sixgunner.com that rags on 1911's about every 6 months or so, just to see what kind of reactions he'll get...I took the bait hard and he set the hook. Everybody got a good laugh...
Oh, and I do own a 45-70...but i'm not married to it. My favorite plains game rifle cartridge is the 300WSM in a Ruger M77 b-a. I don't do DG, but I am looking forward to taking a big bushbuck soon...I'll be using it again in June down in the Limpopo Valley...
Have a great day!
PS: my wife is constantly telling me I need to grow up...and she's probably right...but it is so much fun!

I'm kinda curious. What, exactly, is an "outsider"? I didn't know there were "insiders" and "outsiders" here. Is there a "caliber qualification"? Must you have had a personal conversation with a PH? Maybe the moderator(s) should put a "qualifications" block in the registration form. Regards

Excuse me if I'm not impressed with your antics! I think you simply got more than you a bargined for, and are slideing out of the window, so to speak!
In any event, there are some trouble makers here, and most have only recently arrived! They will not last long, and if you are one of those, then the door is open for travel both ways,In,and out!
Personally, I think you are too smart to leave, if you are for real, if not, you would be dunb to stay! Free choice is a wonderful thing, you may exercise it, at your pleasure!

Beware of treasonous behavior on the part of Mickey1. He has already made a power play for the moderator slot on the Big Bore forum, with "Why a .416 Rigby?"
Beware of similar posts here, like "Why a Cape buffalo?", "Why a 45-70?", "Why a Travel Agent?", and "Why a Packing List?"
Mickey - Not just anyone qualifies as Moderator. Only those endowed with keen insight into human nature need apply. First, I went and read all of RHS's earlier posts, saying to myself, now here's a good sort ... speaks straight from the heart ... yup, I'm gifted!
Longshot, You were right all along .. Clarks post couldn't possibly be taken seriously! Yet, RHS managed to pull us all in anyway. Good one .. gotta give credit where its' due!
True, he did get a ton of hits. For some reason we all jump to defend AR and do a bit of personal attacking on he who started it. I only respnded because I thought there was a practical joke in the works. No one is that inflamatory after 10 posts.

This fool wasnt "stirring the pot" He got a negitive reaction to his post , so to recover he feels that he must take a "higher ground" in which other poster are described as mere ponds to him.
So when you say "to quickly learn what kind of folks one is dealing with." What did you learn? That people called you a pussy when you made a post about not being able to handle freedom well?
"I'm just an old Marine who enjoys people's reactions to various situations. Some of you are rather thin skinned...some are much more savvy." ohhh old wise one tell us about the world we live in.
What a fool.

I'm inclined to agree with this. He made a statement that backfired on him...
You can find out who you are dealing with on these forums just by reading a few of the threads here.
You don't come out and call someone an 'asshole' if you are just 'testing the water.'
Whatever.... I've got better things to waste my time on than this jackass who I have never seen before.

BWWWWWWWWWwwwwww HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaa! RHS, it is quite evident you do not understand, or you wouldn't be antaganizing people right off the bat! Your're just another troll clone, that hides behind a keyboard, and takes pot shots, nothing more!

First Robgunbuilder calls me a Troll, ME. Then you call me Treasonous. Treasonous? I think not, neither. You have so misunderstood my intentions. I just want to make Nick's stint as a Modertator a successful and fullfilling one. People need to know how emotionally stable and what depth of thought he has. How much energy and time he puts in to his new avocation and how much he 'Feels our Pain'.
As for me being a Moderator I would clean up this place for sure. First I would ban all of the people that I consider Trolls. After I have stiffled unique thought I would force everyone left to fill out a 'Certificate of Loyalty' to AR that would not allow for more than 2 differing opinions in a row before an ascenting one would have to be entered.
If a thread didn't get 4 out of the first 7 in the affirmative than it will be erased, as will all other threads after 24 hours. We aren't going to keep the silly things around if you aren't going to read them.
