I was anxiously wishing that Ted Stoogent's hunting antics would hurry up and end at the Y O Ranch where he wastes his time hunting, so I could see the advertised hunt for Cape buffalo next on Wally Dallenbach's "Track & Trail Adventures" this evening. Well, it didn't take long to realize that I'd be disappointed in what lay ahead when I saw that the DGR of choice for the buffalo hunt was a TC Encore being toted by some idiot standing in for Wally waiting for his opportunity to piss off a nice fenced-in buffalo, and then to be finished off by the PH who well performed his duty of congratulating this jerk by making him feel as though he'd actually accomplished something. Then while said jerk was standing waiting for the buff to be finished, another buffalo had to be wasted by the PH because the "tracker" (a little Jack Russell terrier) raised enough commotion that the second-mentioned confused buffalo happened to be running for his life in the wrong direction. What the hell is the outdoor channel trying to prove ??? Why not just stick to turkey & deer and deer & turkey hunting, and we'll know not to tune in !!!

Frank I watched that myself tonight and from the early get go the show just didn't seem right. It left me with an empty feeling. At best it was an inexperienced attempt at an African hunting show. I have a friend who hunted with Madabula and he thought--and this was 3-4 years ago--it was top notch.

I watched it as well and was in disbelief of what I saw. Most African hunting shows on the Outdoor Channel that I've seen have been entertaining and informative. Watching Tracks Across Africa has totally inspired my wife and myself into African hunting. We are in the planning stages of our first hunt.

Wally Dallenbach's t.v. show is just plain horrible. A week or so ago, I saw him "hunt" from a stand located in the front yard of a deer lodge. He shot a buck while the "next" deer to be killed stood there and watched the "recovery" of the first. The whole thing was about as sporting as shooting a Labrador in someone's fenced in back yard.

The buffalo "hunt" was just more of the same. The guy should stick to race cars.

Frank, Judge, Kudu, bull, James, etal-

I was dumbfounded that this type of crap was on. I stayed up to watch it and hoped for something better than a pen-raised cow shoot. That idiot wearing his Bass Pro Shop stenciled shirt and the "trackers", PH's etc. was a gross misrepresentation of hunting and buffalo hunting. This was buffalo shooting, pure and simple.

To back up - Ted Nugent must still be on drugs. His show is pure, self-promotional crap. I have seen it a couple of times and frankly, would not walk across the street to meet that antique hard rocker. He may feel he is God's gift to hunting because of his "pro-hunting" message - but in reality, he is just pro-killing. He had an episode the other day where he took a live chicken and smacked it's head on a rock, skinned it and cooked it in front of a bunch of high school age kids - all the while telling them that this is the "way things are".

He is doing far more damage than good for our sport.

In summary, both of those shows were a total waste of time. I decided that I will never own a TC product along with never owning anything that Ted Nugent and his bimbo wife are pimping.......

Yes, if you can't tell, I have my "rant meter" running very high today...

Roll Eyes I really must be getting old, I finally agree with every post so far. Wally world is so sad. He also likes to kill penned up fallow deer in Fla. As for Uncle Ted he was a verbal running commercial for the entire show. Went to bed pissed.

I usually stay up on what is going on with the various "Bubba" networks. I have yet to see either the Nuge or Wally do anything other than canned stuff. And that is a bunch of shows. Heck- there has to be a market for this stuff or else it wouldn't be on.

The "hunt" was no hunt, and the production value was crap, and the PH did his best to put a good face on the terrible performace of his client who, by the way always seemed to be trailing the staff by a pretty far distance. I'm sure the PH regrets the day he ever agreed to do the deal. I'd never seen the Track and Trail show before, and it was my last time view. As for Ted.....well he's just plain nuts and would be giving the sport an even worse public image except that we can only hope the average person either doesn't catch the show or can see him for what he is. Bimbo wife? What about the son? Being raised to be just as big an attitudinal jerk. We don't need such advocates.

In addition I hope the "client" or Wally has to pay the $10-15K trophy fee for the second buff on the farm.

One thing I forgot to mention: when the second buffalo came running, the jerk client knocked the cameraman down trying to run away, leaving the PH to sort things out & the poor cameraman down for the count.

I watched the show as well, and it certainly isn't up to the standards of what I am seeing on Tracks Across Africa.
That being said I do find it ironic that everyone is so negative about the hunt, seemingly because it was for buffalo in a fenced in area. Most African shows on PG is in RSA, or Namibia, where that kind of hunt is the norm.
If it had been about Kudu, Eland, Nyala etc, etc, would your criticism be as harsh?

The fact is, most of the "hunting shows" are filmed in fenced enclousers - typically for whitetailed deer - those that aren't, usually are for game so acclimated to human provided food and activity at the site they might as well be penned.

The arguments will never end over game ranches as long as they exist. However I lost nearly all interest in "entertainment hunting" after gaining an inside look at how most are produced. Some very highly esteemed shows I might add. Let's just say ethics and in some cases even laws don't get in the way of good footage. thumbdown

I can have an ethical hunt on a 2000 acre fenced ranch just as someone can hunt unethically in trackless wilderness! How is much more important than where. shame
