Zimbabwe: By-Elections - Moyo Wants 10 Elephants Killed to Fund Stadium Project

INFORMATION minister has joined hands with the National Parks and Wildlife Management Authority to get a special hunting concession for 10 elephants to fundraise the construction of Tsholotsho Stadium.

Moyo is also the ruling Zanu PF candidate for Tsholotsho North constituency in by-elections scheduled for June 10.

The seat fell vacant following the recalling of Roselyn Nkomo by the MDC-T party in the national assembly for being part of the Tendai Biti MDC Renewal group.

Moyo, who lost the bid to represent Zanu PF in the 2013 harmonized elections to the MDC-T, now wants to use the construction of a stadium in his home area as a campaign launch pad to wrestle back the seat to the ruling party.

In an interview with New Zimbabwe.Com, Moyo said a hunting concession will enhance the appreciation of wildlife resources by communities who have been victims of the human wildlife conflict and raise the much needed funding for the construction of a soccer stadium that will be used by Tsholotsho FC, a local club competing in the national premier soccer league.

"This is an infrastructure which is important not just for Tsholotsho FC but for everyone including kids in the schools who don't have facilities for field and track events. With this stadium, now they will have a first class facility," he said.

The construction of the stadium has been estimated to cost over $4 million.

"We are kick-starting the process of mobilising those resources through a hunting concession, that is how wildlife can contribute to the community," he said.

Moyo won the right to represent Zanu PF in the by-elections set for June 10 without any challenger.

The political science professor who last represented the area as an independent MP said the constituency has not had the representation it deserves at national level since the July 2013 harmonised elections.

"Not this funny behaviour we saw of this expelled incumbent. We don't want a situation where one individual benefits, it is about the development of the community.

"We are going to do so in the context of ZIMASSET, which seeks to provide a solution of food security and nutrition especially this time when there is drought whose consequences we are already dealing with," he said.

Nkomo was expelled from the national assembly along with 20 others including Biti for abandoning the party that took them to parliament

Wow, It is gonna be a bad day for game if the Zim gov starts looking at wildlife as an walking, single use ATM to fund pet projects.

Do the math. It doesn't work.

Stadium cost over $4 million. He wants 10 elephants. They surely won't raise over $400,000 each or anywhere close to it.

This is the area where a 100 pounder was taken last year.

I will bet Thys isn't happy.

Isn't this the same Brainiac who fell for the diesel from rock - the scam dreamed up by infamous "Nomatter Tagarira" or was that Minister Didy-mouse Matusa?

Nah Larry,

The proceeds from the 10 jumbos will probably go towards funding the stadium's opening ceremony party. Big Grin
