Hi Jeff,

Quite a small area compared to other GMA's but has extensive Kafue National Park boundary and the Buffalo there know it.

Billili has suffered encroachment from the west but still has good hunting grounds and some of the only water in the region.

Being up against the park you have a good chance of coming across the monstrous Lions that inhabit the protected area.

Alister is a great PH and has very high success rates on cats and I think purely because he works so damn hard for his clients.

We agree 110% About Alister, I have hunted with him twice. He got me leopard twice. He is telling me he will be hunting here now. I was hoping he would be able to hunt me again this year but he was already booked. I trust Alister 100% but always ask as many questions as possible. Thanks for the information!

We hunted there in 2003 and 2004 for buffalo. There were lots of buffalo in LARGE herds(as in hundreds to one herd estimated at 1,000 plus) and we were into at least some daily.

The camp was nice back then and most of the hunting occurred along lake itezi tezi(spelling). One would drive from camp on the road representing the border with the park toward the lake searching for spoor, then parallel the lakeshore searching there as well.

Bushbuck were common along the lake and river with croc and hippo very numerous as well. The bushbuck were smaller than along the limpopo, but available. Plains game was very thin in the area but leopard tracks were common and lion spoor not uncommon. The area has a large human population with hundreds of cattle that may or may not feed by camp. The camp was under large sausage and pod mahogany trees along a karongo with water lilies and the occasional small croc.

Billili refers to the hot springs by the same name and might warrant a visit after your cat is in the salt. Also consider the restruant up by the dam for their baked chicken and wonderful fresh caught tilapia.

BTW, even the park in the area was nearly devoid of plains game, but I failed to mention elephant which were quite numerous and some looked pretty nice. Snares, elephant bone piles and other evidence of poaching was common.

Summary; Buffalo great, leopard, hippo, and croc, also good. Lion, probably OK. Plains game, not so much. Just my experiences, yours may differ, Good Luck!

Adrian,

I would say that was a fairly good description and note that it is about four years since I was last there. Seem to remember some good hartebeest, reedbuck and oribi as well. Later in the season the Buffalo get wiser.
