Tanzania License Cost
I used to use Travelers Checks years ago, but that seems to be a thing of the past.

I hunt there often enough that I've thought of opening a bank account in Dar. Would solve a lot of problems. I could get cash once I got there, but it would be in shillings and nobody would be real happy with that.

I wonder when crypto will take over? At the end of the hunt, before you leave, you could just transfer your bitcoin or ethereum to the outfitters crypto wallet and everything would be squared away.

I see this happening in the not too distant future.

Agreed, Saeed. Crypto is too volatile. Worse than shillings.

Agree with you completely. I talked with my Tanzania outfitter about paying in BTC this year. At least for the funds that weren't going directly to the Tanzania government. It didn't happen but I foresee it working in the next 5-10 years.

Since many are talking about Tanzania on this thread, at Independence 60 years ago, the exchange rate was 7 TZS/1 USD. Now it is 2,300 TZS / 1 USD for a loss in value against the USD of x300. The USD has lost over 90% of it's value over the same time period, thus the TZS has lost x3,000 it's original purchasing power. Long term, who wants to own shillings or even dollars. Especially with the continued debasement of fiat by all governments.

It is easy to transfer crypto from one wallet to another now without having to deal with banks. First world Governments don't even have to know, which means they will fight it. On the other hand, governments like Tanzania are considering adopting crypto like El Salvador has already done.

Crypto is here to stay. Fighting crypto is like saying the postal service is perfectly fine and I will never use email, 30 years ago. People may choose not to use crypto. The banks will continue to be available to them. Especially the older hunters who don't want to change.

When 1 gallon of petrol was selling for 4 shs. at the pump. Big Grin

Am not sure however that TZ is quite ready for crypto trade when one considers that the conventional credit card facilities are not yet fully available.

As you say, maybe in 5-10 years from now.

.......and we had to pump the petro by hand. Wink

For the most part Tanzania bypassed the hard wired telephone/landlines and went directly to cellphones. The same may happen with banks. Tanzanian's may bypass the traditional banking establishment and go directly from cash (yes some have fiat on their phones) to crypto. In Nigeria it seems crypto is booming. https://finance.yahoo.com/news...-most-210011742.html

We are still early and there are inefficiencies with trying to go crypto now but things will change fast. In ten years we will probably make around the world transactions in less than a minute for a few cents bypassing the traditional banking system.

Crypto today is like the dotcom bubble. There is a tremendous amount of trash in the marketplace. When the bubble bursts, most will be blown away. The key is picking the gems that will survive. ie: Ebay, Priceline, Amazon etc.
