Just saw CNN reporting that Cecil's brother Jericho was killed by an illegal hunter. Their words. Can we quit giving the damned lions names?

Hey, it's not that bad. We haven't (yet) been subjected to the NYT obituary on Cecil.

Reports suggest Jericho could still be alive
There are now conflicting reports over the reported death of Jericho.

Reports coming from Zimbabwe suggest he could still be alive.

We will bring you confirmation either way as soon as we get it.

A wildlife expert from South Africa claims Jericho is alive and well.

Drew Abrahamson wrote on Facebook: "Jericho's collar is sending out normal collar movement up untill 20 mins ago!

He also posted this image apparently showing the lion's movements.

Are we surprised.... Given the info was put out by ZCTF.. They even said it was killed at 4pm...local time today..?? He clearly does not check the facts with the main research team members on the ground before disseminating information to the world at large..

Conservationists investigate death of another lion in Zimbabwe

Wildlife officials believe a young male was shot illegally by an American hunter last month but say Jericho, the brother of Cecil is safe

Rob Crilly By Rob Crilly, New York7:56PM BST 01 Aug 2015

Conservationists in Zimbabwe are investigating reports that a young male lion was shot dead by an American hunter in Zimbabwe days before Cecil was killed by a Minnesota dentist sparking outrage around the world.
Wildlife activists initially reported the lion that had been killed was Jericho, who had been protecting his brother Cecil's cubs.
"It is with huge disgust and sadness that we have just been informed that Jericho, Cecil's brother has been killed at 4pm today," said a statement by the Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force.
However, it soon emerged that it was a different lion that had been killed, early in July.

Trevor Lane, of the Bhejane Trust in Zimbabwe, said he had spoken to the researcher who had put collars on Jericho and Cecil.
"He saw Jericho this morning and as of 8.30 tonight Jericho was alive and moving around fine," he said, adding that world scrutiny meant Zimbabwe had increased protection for its lions.

Details emerged just as Zimbabwe suspended the hunting of lions, leopards and elephants in the area where Cecil was killed, and as officials said they investigating the killing of another lion in April that may have been illegal.
In addition, bow and arrow hunts have been suspended unless they are approved by the head of the director of the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority, the organisation said. The authority said it only received information this week about the possibly illegal killing of a lion in April. An arrest has been made in that case, officials said.
The announcement follows the international outcry that followed revelations that Dr Palmer had killed Cecil, one of Zimbabwe's most famous lions. Zimbabwean authorities say the hunt was illegal and are seeking the extradition of Walter James Palmer, a dentist in Minnesota.
Cecil was killed just outside Hwange national park, an area popular with hunters for its teeming wildlife.

I just opened Yahoo and there is a big story about Jericho being killed by ABC. If the report of the lion's death is a fake, I wonder if we will ever see a retraction?
I wouldn't put it past one of these antis to shoot it to fire things up more.

Cnn still has the story up as well.. It serves their agenda to leave it up as long as possible. Doesn't matter when people learn its fake. The outrage and damage has already been done.

This appears to be a massive premeditated and well orchestrated negative PR campaign likely now.
This Jericho deal is garbage!
He was killed "defending Cecil's cubs"????
REALLY???
You don't have to smell the rat on this deal...we're now being smacked in the face with the rat!

Has anybody paused to stop and think that nobody knows these two lions are "Brothers"? Really????? What are the odds of two lions living in the wild to the estimated age of 13? Compound that by what the odds would be of two sibling male lions living together for 13 years.

Now, compound that further by figuring out how the hell anyone would know or CARE back in 2002 when we had more important things to worry about than internet mafia misfits running to attack whatever the latest bad guy du jour is.

This whole thing is a fookin joke. A very bad one, indeed.

The Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force has been all over the news after Cecil doing interviews how sport hunting does not help conservation etc., and should be banned.

Of course, they are the ones breaking this news now. Once it goes viral, even if not true, damage would be done.

I expect that Zimbabwe Wildlife Conservation could counter everything ZCTF says. The problem is that they don't have the kind of credibility that ZCTF has (however undeserved) for reasons that they have already explained.

What to do ... ... .. ?

Bottom line, know your sources of information. Verify and check thoroughly . Get all the facts, THEN make a statement. With relevant hard facts and or evidence to corroborate your findings.

His life may be in danger..... Only because he talks so much shit!!! He is not well liked locally I can assure you. It's easy to hoodwink and play on people's emotions when they live 1000's of miles away and have know idea of what really is going on.

JR claims he phoned a park warden...? Who was it? What was his name? Several other people confirmed it.....? Funny how he couldn't get hold of the research guys at hwange park, but manages to talk to lots of other people....he is a liability to our conservation efforts.

Take a look at their website, they claim to have donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to Zimbabwe Parks... PROVE IT....?? Each donation, no matter whether in cash, kind, equipment has to be acknowledged in writing from the parks authority.

He is enemy number one at zim parks head office and in conservation circles in Zimbabwe in general!!! I will leave it up to you to figure out why...
