Aaron NeilsonTanzania Lion x 2 - Aug/Sept 2012
Despite dryer than normal conditions in western Tanzania's Lukwati Game Reserve - my client (Amber Knowlton) and I, had a tremendous safari over 23 days. She hunted day's 1 - 10, and went home with some great trophies, and I hunted from days 11 - 23. Below are 2 pics of the lions we both shot, her's on day 9, and mine on day 23. I'll have a full report with lots of pics in just a few days.

Actually Greg's guy was in a different camp, hunting mostly north of where we were hunting. Lukwati is 3 million acres, so there's lots of country to hunt, and loads of game.

Safari2Looking forward to your report Aaron..Again just hoping all of the lion hunters saw or saw evidence of many more. Like Gerryb's report..he saw 5 male lions in addition to the one he took
..that has to make one feel even better after having taken a good lion.

daleWAaron,
Questions on your hunt:
1. How can you take 2 lions on a one 21 day safari? It is my understanding that Tanzania regulations allow only 1 lion per license and it must be at least a 21 day safari? Are multiple hunters allowed to combine a 21 day hunt and take multiple lion on the same license?
2. If your lion is at least 6 years old, how old was Amber's lion? How did you determine the age of the lions?
Please advise,
dale

Dale - Amber had her own 21-day license. I too had my own 21 day license, allowing us of us to shoot all species available.
Amber's license was valid Aug. 10 - 30, mine was valid Aug 17 - Sept 6 (2 - 21 day licenses) She took 3 buffalo, a 42" sable, reedbuck, hartebeest, and then took her lion on day 9. After that she went home, and I then started hunting!
Amber's lion is the oldest lion I have ever been a part of taking, the best I can recall anyway. I am thinking he's 8-9 yrs old.

I think its high time you got barred from killing more lions - you've done at least 15 too many

Can't remember who said it but wasn't one of the factors in determining age in a lion the growth/development of its mane?
The young ladies' lion seems to have a shorter mane to the one you shot but hers is apparently a lot older according to you.

Fujo - You know as well as I, mane development "CAN" be a factor to consider in age, but like all other age considerations, mane is NOT the one and only answer.
How about this, I'll bet you the price of another TZ lion hunt, that her lion comes back aged older than mine! Care to bet???

Indeed and I stand by that argument but some others don't and Amber's lion is one of those examples where the mane is certainly not the determining factor.
Damn nice lions - congratulations the both of you!
