Dear AR guests

Although there are many rules and regulations applicable when bringing trophies back into USA I thought clients might be interested to know that there is a special permit that can help when bringing trophies back. Good taxidermists will know of this permit and use it of cource, but for those whom don't here is some valuable information

Our recent client has some trophies coming back from Africa to Houston and their Taxidermist has what is called an ( Exception to designate port of entry permit ) issued by USFW to use Houston as the Port of entry /

This in effect takes advantage of the (through rate available) allowing the consignment passage through NY & Chicago and saving money and the chance for missing an item on route.

The consignor MUST also remember to ensure the airway bill ( designates Houston ) as the PORT of Entry

BTW their taxi uses ABX logistics in Houston as their clearance broker

Good luck and good hunting

Peter

The Port of Houston is now a Designated Port and no longer requires a Port Exception Permit.

The problem is what if your trophies are coming on SAA via New York and SAA does not fly into Houston, does that then not require the exempt permit ?

How or which specific airline flys from Johannesburg ( with trophy freight) direct to Houston as the first point of arrival in USA

I would think that the folks doing the exporting would use a shipper that goes direct.Of the three different shippments that I have recieved they all came direct to Houston. My trophies from last June came Air France via Charles DeGaulle.

Cry 'Havoc,' and let slip the dogs of war;
That this foul deed shall smell above the earth
With carrion men, groaning for burial.

baboon or other esteemed AR guests taxidermists or shipping companies

Not to nit pick, but ONLY to establish the full facts so clients can ensure they get the best deal possible price wise and red tape wise.

Have you any idea if sending trophies ex: Johannesburg on AF via Europe and onwards to Houston are the same (freight and clearing costs) as sending them with SAA via NY or Atlanta to Houston

Are there any HIDDEN intransit add on costs or other red tape inspections done in Europe or DO the packed crate consignments go direct from Jo-burg via Paris without layover and inspection in Paris ///

What I am really saying, is the cost the same or cheaper by sending airfright via Europe from SA to Houston, or more expensive, if more expensive by how much on average ?
