I heard it's no longer an option, but that struck me as odd. Looking for some ground truth folks.

Email Air 2000 and get their take on it.

I hunt, not to kill, but in order not to have played golf....

Shouldn't be a problem. Sport shooting in all forms is still big in SA apart from hunting.

Make some enquiries, e.g. with PHASA or SAPS, but you can go onto the SAPS (police) website and download the temp import permit application so it's filled out when you arrive. (Those of us from Zim who go regularly for competitions even get the temp permits pre-issued but your outfitter would have to do it and I don't know if they would.) The SAPS form is complicated, just fill in everything.

Christy at Gracy Travel who handles all the gun permits just told me there are no special restrictions on hunting handgun . She recommends you apply for the SAPS permits 4-6 weeks in advance just to make sure everything is kosher.

It is not an issue. Just apply in advance for an import permit and you'll be set.

I was just told only revolvers though. You can't take in Semi autos for hunting.

How about single shots?
