Contact Matt Norman on this forum about hunting with Sohrada Safaris. They have more game animals than we have birds and the accomodations are terrific.
Many of the phone systems, which we take for granted, are unreliable in many parts of Namibia. People i have hunted with in the ast didn't have internet connections and required sending snail mail and telephone calls. Though a pain, and expensive, many a phone call directly to the place you would like to hunt would be best.

I have twice hunted with Antonie Louw of Makalaan Safaris and reccommend him highly.Great hunting at the lowest Daily rates and trophy fees that I have seen posted.1x1 is $250 day.Superb gemsbok, eland and kudu.
Curt, I highly recommend Vaughan Fulton Classic Safaris. You may have seen some of the recent posts regarding his operation. However, you'll be hard pressed to talk with him right now, as (like Ann says) he's out hunting. Rest assured that he will get back to you and answer your questions in full. His wife may return a short message just to let you know the email was received, but don't be surprised if it takes a few weeks to get a "real" response.

One thing that I have found in trying to contact Vaughan, is if you don't get a response from him or Pat, is to resend the message after a week or two.
Namibian internet service has been known to go on the fritz on more than one occasion.
Keep trying, it's worth the headache. Or if you prefer, contact Wendell Reich or Mike Lindsay. They book for him and can probably answer any questions.

Another good one is Die Keiler their website is www.natron.net/keiler. They also do the bulk of their business with European hunters, so should be very familiar with your questions. I hunted with them in 2003 and had a great hunt.

This is the outfit I booked with for 2005. Two of my friends hunted with them last year and had a great time. My father met Jan Visser earlier this year in Houston at a show. It is there busy time of year for sure, we will have just gotten back this time next year. We do a great deal of research before we book any hunt with someone and Jan seemed to be a great option for us. Hope this helps!

This illustrates one advantage of using an agent; that person can usually handle the email questions while the outfitter and PHs are out hunting. This is the high season in Southern Africa, and the good outfitters are hunting all day every day.
I book for Jan Oelofse and John Wambach in Namibia. My wife and I will be hunting with them in '05 also. Jan's outift is in the Central Highlands and is mainly plains game, while John hunts two Conservancies in the Caprivi Strip for dangerous game, and also plains game on a ranch to the south. Vaughan Fultan was a PH at Jan's until he struck out on his own. John also does backpack hunts and portered hunts if you want to experience old AFrica.
Email if I can help you.

The Namibia telephone is way better that it was even 10 years ago. In those days it was easy to call Windhoek, but there weren't many lines north of the capitol.
Each year they made progress going north, but with each increment they changed either the required number of digits to be dialed or the phone numbers. Every year when I was trying to coordinate clients with Jan Oelofse I would have to play "what's the new phone number?". They always did the cut over to new systems after the SCI Convention of course just to add a wrinkle.
These days the phone system is stable, and you can even send email.
Not quite to camp, but at least to someone who has a radio. You don't want too much communications while you are hunting after all. jim

If you are interested in hunting with Vaughan Fulton, send me an e-mail with your questions and dates. I have a fairly updated schedule for Vaughan and I will be happy to assist you. I have worked with Vaughan for about two years now, and just spent almost three weeks with him in Namibia.
I do not know if Vaughan is one of the guys you attempted to contact, but I have found the e-mail for Namibia is one of the worst in all of Africa. Like Joe states, sometimes, he just doesn't receive the message.
On our way to Kamanjab, about 350 miles northwest of Windhoek, most of the telephone poles are clogged with nests of weaver birds. Our host said that these nests cause continual problems with phone reception. On his ranch, he had 2 uninsulated steel lines connecting with the highway for his phone lines to the ranch. His internet worked but was slow, phone seemed to work fine, and he was sure glad that he had a cell tower near his ranch to make cell phone available. Bob
Problem: Ive contacted three outfitters in Namibia trying to book a hunt/get a price estimate for 2005. Only one outfitter has answered and promised to get back to me soon. The other two havent responded and its been a week since I sent the emails.
Question: How long does one usually have to wait for a reply? I understand that they might be in a hurry but some kind of a notice should be given in a reasonable time. These people all have good reps and some of you have hunted with them.
If anyone can recommend a good place for plains game in Namibia please let me know.
