Elephants kill woman 20 September, 2007 Bostwana News GUMARE - A 75-year-old woman of Beetsha has been killed by elephants. Gumare-based Senior Game Warden, Mr Phepa Babopi, said the woman was killed last week while cutting trees in her field to prepare for the ploughing season. He said the woman was accompanied by her daughter who ran away. Mr Babopi said the elephants were incensed by dogs that barked at them earlier during the day. The woman was buried over the weekend in Beetsha. In other issues, Mr Babopi said three men aged between 30 and 60 years of Xurube and Sepopa have been arrested for poaching. He said the three were found in possession of game meat without permission. He said the men would appear before the Maun Magistrate Court to answer charges of hunting without licenses. Mr Babopi appealed to residents of Okavango to stop killing wild animals unlawfully as it is a serious offence. He said they have recorded 13 cases of poaching since the beginning of the year. Mr Babopi also urged residents to return copies of their hunting licenses after hunting, adding that since the hunting season started in April, only a few people have returned their copies. The hunting season in Okavango closes this week. BOPA Kathi kathi@wildtravel.net 708-425-3552 "The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page." | ||
