Does anyone have any experience with the Weatherby .375? Their custom shop puts out a pretty nice looking rifle, but I have no experience with DG rifles. Any feedback would be appreciated. Here's a link to the rifle:

Thanks.

Sir,

I'd submit to you that DG is better hunted in many cases with a double rifle.

If you really want something in a bolt action, www.rifleactions.com yields MUCH VALUE for your dollar. Plus it's controlled feed, WBY is NOT!!!

DocGlenn. I have a 460 and 378 in this model. The rifle works great. Are you going to put a scope on it? I will say the rear sight will need a little work. After many rounds have been fire and with a combination of oil the rear sight will work it self lose. Using a punch and making a divot on the base of the rear sight bracket takes care of this issue.
Its a fine rifle.

The .375 Weatherby cartridge is very respected in almost all circles, not so the rifle by the same name. I would go for a rifle by American Hunting Rifles in that caliber (as well as a number of other good rifle makers) and you might want to consider them as well.

I believe the title of this string is Weatherby .375 H&H! I take this to mean you are talking about a Weatherby rifle, chambered for the .375 H&H cartridge, not the 375 Weatherby Magnum.

If that is the case, then, IMO, you have made a good choice in cartridge, but not so good in the make of rifle.

The 375 H&H is considered as a medium size cartridge, and many consider it too small for dangerous game in Africa, in all but ideal conditions. I, for one do not share that opinion. IMO, the 375 H&H cartridge is one of the best chamberings ever taken to the dark contnent, and is a cartridge that needed no fixing by the late comers with their so-called improved 375 cartridges. They were simply fixing something that wasn't broken, IMO!

On the rifle you are looking at, it isn't the brand name that is the problem, but the action design used in a rifle to be used for dangerous game. It, like many others, is a PUSH FEED system, and is not the best choice for a DGR platform. The first consideration in building a DGR, is a CRF ( control round feed) action.

Weatherby, Sako, Remington, most Savages, Sauer, and many other, otherwise well made rifles, are all PF (push feed), and, IMO, are not well suited to DGR use!

The Whitworth, Any Mauser clone, Win mod 70, Ruger RSM express, CZ 550, and Safari classics are very good candidates for this use, and are, in most cases, less expencive!

This is the opinion of only one person, and is worth exactly what you paid for it, but my advice is to at least check into it, before you buy! beer

Thanks. I should have made it more clear that I'm questioning the rifle, not the cartridge. Thanks again for the input.
