My Campaign:Killing the demand for Ivory...

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-18...al-ivory-trade-boom/

Some may call me stupid...But it bothers me not!
I am not crazed, but have always been PASSIONATE and willing to fight for the issues I believe in.

I'm launching forth a FULL CAMPAIGN: "Killing the Demand For Ivory"

I have a lot of research and study ahead of me;
And I need facts...and I need you to send me "links" to articles and ESPECIALLY photographs of everything you can find!

THIS CAMPAIGN WILL BE FILLED WITH "HORRFIC" PHOTOGRAPHS DEMONSTRATING the cruel reality/tragedy of these majestic animals SLAUGHTERED by the hands of these poachers!...a picture is worth a 1000+ words!!!

Send to me direct...

lapierre.roland@yahoo.

This is in regards to this thread below...where I personally have said to myself..."Enough is enough!"...as long as I have breath I need to do something about this...It has now become PERSONAL!

http://forums.accuratereloadin...1411043/m/9771072291

My attack will not be aimed on the Chinese/Asian/African Governments...but solely on the Asian/Chinese culture and people themselves!

If you try to bang away at the governments...they're too powerful and driven by money/greed and its demand for their resources!

Bang away at a Chinaman and he will be pissed as HELL!!!

BTW, I'm part-Chinese so I can say that!

That's where I will ignite this CONTROVERSY and demonstrate the facts and make this the arena/battlefield to inject awareness and ignorance to the facts that plague the demise of these mammoth beasts of the African bush...knowing that because of their demand this incredible beasts by their hands alone faces near extinction in a matter of just a few very short years ahead!

I will create a website/blog, and will take this to the forefront of SOCIAL MEDIA and IGNITE MY CAMPAIGN in a MOST CONTROVERSIAL fashion...it will STIR THE POT..and shit will happen...It will not be pretty! BUT my only hope is that it brings a POSITIVE change!

I need to prepare myself mentally in order to endure the battle at hand!

Bring it on tu2

Sincerely,

Roland

This is a very noble endeavor! I pray that with the penetration of internet access in Asian countries it has a very real chance of changing the behavior of thousands is not millions of people.
My hat is off to you.

Roland,

This is a large undertaking brother but with that being said information is always powerful and valuable to inform those that might be willing to learn more. Our Twitter feed (link in signature) has many links to poaching articles. I have also written material about the problem of poaching on my blog and have provided links to articles through our Facebook page (link in signature).

You are welcome to any photographs that you might need to use from my blog. There are many articles to explore such as The Pain of the Poacher’s Snare. Just let me know which photos you want and I will send you an email giving you permission to use those images in your campaign and also send you a Dropbox link to the high res images.

Best always,
Shawn

IF ever you can manage to educate many Asians to care for (and) respect human life,
..then you may just have a slim chance in getting them to one day respect the Elephant,Rhino or Tiger.

The problem is very complex.

Indian / Asian ivory is now illegal to trade in. It is perfectly legal to trade in mammoth ivory quarried from Siberian ice caps.

Hong Kong has the world's largest ivory carving industry and they have old stock piles that could last for years. They then get the illegal African & Asian ivory & mix it with the mammoth and old stocks so that one can never prove smuggling / trading in contraband ivory.

The people who are prepared to pay very high prices for such products (including Rhino & Tiger parts) do not care about these raw photos. They are only concerned about their status and ego in being able to show off among their peers in that local culture.

It is impossible to convince such people about our values and sentiments!

China as a country and the government in particular needs to have the political will to act by banning the trade on these three animals - Tiger, Rhino & elephant. They need to do what they did with the Panda. That is the only hope for these species.

Hi Roland,

Bearing in mind that most of the people you are wanting to reach are very much plugged in to social media you may find it useful to start with the likes of QQ, WeChat, Twitter and Facebook.

Good luck,

Milo.

The only problem with graphic photos is that those who do not hunt or may be anti hunting will see little difference between a photo of an elephants head chopped up by poachers and one chopped up for ivory and meat after a legal harvest.

The negative impact to local populations by illegal acts is the issue, not the images of the deed.

Same for photos of animals in snares. there are legitimate uses for snares for control of problem animals in the US and other places. The context of the tools use, legal or illegal, will make no difference to many people viewing images of an animal caught in a snare.

I understand your disgust but at the same time I am unsure if this is the best way to approach the problem.

Just a thought but be aware that images can work against you if you are not careful. Your campaign of images may be sending messages that you did not intend.

My thoughts exactly. Many people will see the elephant's death as unnecessary in either case. I 2nd Grafton's concerns.

+1. The Anti groups may use it against legitimate hunters; but I applaud your efforts nonetheless.

Exactly; not to mention the fact that this approach has already tried about a thousand times over the past half century.

Plus, in the end, they end up just becoming what are essentially advertising agencies whose sole purpose is to raise money by showing horrific images over the internet - and have absoluely no impact on poaching (like PETA & the HSUS).

On another forum this topic came up recently. It was suggested that an ad campaign be created featuring attractive young Asian women stating that they won't sleep with any man wearing or owning ivory (in various Asian languages and dialects as well as English).

It was suggested that the ivory market would dry up in a year.

Probably wouldn't hurt.

I think this is an excellent idea. If successful it would buy us all time to figure out what to do about the human population growth in Africa. Ultimately this problem will wipe out the elephant and many others.

That is always the elephant in the room nobody wants to talk about.
And the reason nobody wants to talk about it is because there are a few very old and powerful religions who oppose things like birth control or population control. It's very difficult to get anywhere when the solution is opposed, or quietly not supported by all of these religious groups. Cultures often reflect the religious ideas, more or less.
I don't really know what to do about that.
