I caught part of it while taping. Like the Old Man said, better than watching Buckmasters!

I didn't see anyone mention that the PH didn't have a rifle, even during the first shot.

Am I wrong to think that he should have been packing?

We'll know we arrived when they do cow phant hunts!

I can't wait

cummins cowboy,
You misinterpreted my thumb
It was not sarcastic, it was sincere in this case. I never leave home without my Crooked Horn bino harness.

The confusion may come in because it is funny that Ernst of the Bushveld is decked out with a stainless barrel and synthetic stock, and hunting in the Tanzanian rain with the American client packing a walnut and blue rifle that is Dakota-like. roflmao

Crooked Horn? thumb thumb thumb thumb thumb

Dallas safari club even had some made up with elephant logo instead of deer logo on the leather diamond. roflmao

Minkman,
I noted a scene where the PH had no rifle, but just assumed a tracker was holding it while the PH glassed and gesticulated. Wasn't that Ernst you noted without the rifle, in the Beretta show? He was quite the performer. Jolly fellow. Not wet behind the ears, except in the rain. He never fired a shot, but the client fired four.

More bad shooting. Wink

RIP,

It was the Baretta show. I felt better when I saw him stuck in the mud with his rifle. gunsmile

I still can't wait for the phant hunts and the NRA elephant hunting game due in 2009!

Maybe I'm a glass half-empty kind of guy, but RIP's point is exactly the kind of thing I'm complaining about. That, together with the melodramatic thumb, self-hyping, semi-Hollywood nonsense one so often sees.

These producers will never figure out that it's really not that much harder to do it the right way. Too many people seem far too willing to settle for shit when they should have chocolate pudding.

But don't get me wrong, it was a helluva lot better than the whispering, camo-clad, good-old-bubba bow-hunting, deer-blind-sitting stuff one usually sees. Or the turkeys hunting turkeys, either. Big Grin

If you liked the show remember to leave them a feedback message so they may bring us a little more or at least not discontinue the series. I loved it. Good hunting.

Although cartridge selection is important there is nothing that will substitute for proper first shot placement. Good hunting, "D"

I wholeheartedly agree with those who said it was a breath of fresh air compared to the normal programming.

One of my primary gripes with hunting shows is they almost never fully describe the gear everyone is using. From guns to binos I want to know specifically what brand and what caliber? Is it a custom gun or a factory gun? I don't understand why equipment has taken such a backseat to overly histrionic commentary. This show started to be informative but then they got the gun description wrong on the first guy and failed to talk at all about the weapon the other gentleman was using. These shows just lack substance for me. Maybe I'm weird but I like to know.

But a breat of fresh air nonetheless.

Anybody record the Dangerous Game episode on tape or DVD? If so shoot me a pm if you don't mind sending it to me to watch. Swear you'll get it back! Thanks.

I haven't seen the show as it is not aired here in TZ. I know that on the Tanzanian part of the filming, the 3 PH's involved were Ersnt Scholz, Douglas McNeil and Andy Payne. I believe Douglas was one of the "clients"?

Douglas shoot's a Jeffery's .500 NE
Ernst Shoots a custom .460 weatheby Synthetic/ss when hunting TZ.
Andy shoots a borrowed custom .416 Remington while awaiting his new custom .416 Rigby

Despite all the jokes about Ernst, to me he is one of the most professional, dedicated and experienced PH's I have met (and hunted) with. His knowledge of bush fare is outstanding. Hunting is in his blood. He can get pretty intense when hunting and sometimes that reflects negatively on his otherwise pleasant nature.

I wish i could get to see the shows!

Saw it several weeks ago and enjoyed it,Did think the first two shots were way high, but comming from me a bowhunter I just figured they were looking to take out the spine??? Saw it again over this past weekend and thought it was much better then the normal crap that is on. (think turkey, bass, etc.)Shame it has all the dang commercials. Main thing is it depicted africa and not in a bad way. Can't be all bad.Hope there's more to come.

Bwanamich,

Only Douglas and Andy were shown on the show. They made it sound like Douglas was the "client" and Andy was the PH. Ernst never appeared on the show.

Terry

Oh? From above posts I thought he appeared on the Beretta show - the Ph with the SS rifle?

Bwanamich,
Ernst Sholtz (sp?) (in the "World of Beretta" segment immediately following the "Dangerous Game" show on OLN) was faultless in his performance. He is certainly the kind of PH I would want to have backing me up.

As for the two kids hunting buffalo together on the "Dangerous Game Show" ... they were certainly more dangerous than cape buffalo. Wink

I wouldn't judge them that quickly. Douglas has been hunting since he was a child and guiding for TGTS for the last 5-6 years. Maybe he was "acting"? I would like to see the show....As for Andy, he's young but hard working and I know that his colleagues speak well of him.

Bwanamich,
You mentioned that Douglas shoots a Jeffery .500 NE. Is this it?

Spring,
Yep, that's the young feller and rifle that missed the swinging-on-a-rope watermelon with the first shot.

He did connect with the quick followup shot from the Jeffery's .500 NE 3" double, however, proving the value of a double in such trying situations as when you fail to stop a charging watermelon with your first shot.

RIP,

Precisely why I bought a Lott! Here in Great Meadows, it's all farms. There's a lot of dangerous fruit and vegetables who look at you like you owe them money! sofa

Not to mention the giant garden hogs, who'll run up one side of you and down the other before you can flip the safety off! jump
