One of the plains game I have always wanted was a Gerenuk. Are there places these wonderful animals can be hunted and does anyone have an idea what the trophy fee would be. I can't find much on them. Thanks, and it would be nice to see some taxidermy of the Gerenuk from those who have had the chance to hunt them.

Ethiopia has both the Northern Gerenuk and the Southern Gerenuk. The "license fee" is $3000 on each species. Ethiopia does not have trophy fees, you buy your licenses before the hunt, similar to hunting in the U.S.A.

Contact Rich Elliott from Ethiopian Rift Valley Safaris, he is an AR member.

Best of luck, you will love Ethiopia should you decide to go.

Pegleg,

Gerenuk are available throughout Masailand and are quite common in some areas. They can be hunted on a 10 day schedule with a 21 day license. This unfortunately makes the hunt very expensive.

Contact Danny Mccallum, they had or have an area (Ngaserai) with just these masai species,no DG in this area. It was half the prices compared to others.

Gerenuk is a 21 day animal so don't expect it to be cheap. 20k for 7 days + trophy fees

With some outfitters its over 40k if you want the chance to hunt a Gerenuk.

One of the largest concentrations of Gerenuk are in Rock Springs, TX. They were captured in the 30's and transported to Eastern Africa. If you really want to "hunt" this species, you need to go to Rock Springs..

Unfortunately, Danny does not have that area any longer. It became a Wildlife Management Area (WMA) which means it is now managed by the community....... CRYBABY

It was leased by a new entrant in the hunting industry, Shangri La safaris, who are essentially the same people that own the infamous Green Mile safaris!

Doesn't work that way Anton - more likely have to come to some sort of "win-win" deal by sub-leasing a hunt through another outfitter.

Hello

I shot mine in the Lake Natron area in Tanzania. They were abundant in the Maasai area.
In Tanzania you do need a 21 day License.

The other area is Ethiopia as Kathi has discussed.

Aziz

Aziz,

+1 on the Gerenuk. You have the most amazing adventures. How did the Marco turn out?

And say, who is that young stud standing behind your Dall?

I too want a gerenuk. The beauty is that on a 21 day license in Masailand, there are a whole lot of other great species available too. Yes, Tanzania is on the high end, but the real expense will come with the taxidermy bill.

Thanks Anton I messed up on the Gerenuk and did not get a full body mount and have kicked myself for not doing it.

How are you Jack, I got that Dall a long time ago, the joints did not hurt as much then. I am booked to go for the Marco polo in November this year.

Will be hunting Blue Sheep in Pakistan in 2 weeks.

Regards
Aziz
