I am considering a safari with Muchinga in Zambia with either John or Abie du Plooy for lion and would appreciate any information regarding the type of PH each are. I have met both but have not hunted with them and we all know how important it is to hunt with a PH that is not only energetic and a very good hunter but one that you can enjoy being with. So if anyone has hunted with either of these PH"s I would greatly appreciate your input. If you prefer send me a PM.

Thanks in advance.

I know both very well and you would not be disappointed with either. If you like a PH with a wicked sense of humour then go with Abie. Both are passionate about what they do and both have many years of dangerous game experience.

Johnny has one of the best areas for Lion in the Luangwa.

I suspect alot of AR members know the DuPlooys and some have probably had the pleasure of hunting with them.

CFA,
I have not had the pleasure of hunting with Johnny or Abie but I have hunted with Muchinga in 2006. Excellent oufit and excellent concession. I hunted with Terry Van Rooyen and tracker Lamec Banda. Both nice guys and Lamec is an amazing tracker. Though I did not hunt cats I took nice buffalo, hippo and croc and heard and saw lions in the Chanjusi while I was there.

SBT took a nice lion right after we left and he will probably post here as well.

BTW Fred is that you... been away awhile?

Thanks for that feedback, I heard that some people would pay extra just to have Abie in camp to tell stories.

Bwanamrm, Yes that's me, been doing some hunting took a great leopard in Zim last year. Good to hear from you, I really enjoyed your post about your trip.

As Russell mentioned, I hunted with Muchinga in 2006 and killed a very nice lion. I was very pleased with my safari. Alistair Norton was my PH, and to hear him talk, Abie would be a great PH to hunt with, both from a skill and personality standpoint.

CFA,

I hunted with Muchinga in 2008, Terry was my PH, but I got to meet Johnny and spend some time with Abie. Good outfit, good PH's. Had a great hunt and want to go back. Send me a PM if you'd like.

abie is a well rounded individual Big Grinfull of chit & vinegar. old time PH , you would learn a lot of old africa from him. But if lion is on your agenda, johnny doesn't seem to be able to walk out of camp without stumbling over 1. both are fun as is terry. duploys run a very good camp

I really appreciate all the feedback. With Abie only recently starting back with Johnny I believe Johhny might have the edge in finding that big lion, so he is the man. I hope Abie comes into camp and tells some of his stories.

Best wishes to all on your upcoming hunts.

I'm booked for Buff and Plains Game with Muchinga in 2011! So far, the outfit has been extremely accomodating, as I had to move my dates, and I'm excited as hell to be going.

I hunted Buff with Abie last July. My buddy hunted with Terry.
We both had a wonderful hunt and both guys were great fun to be in camp with. Abie is a no pressure guy and works hard to make you comfortable. I don't think you could find a better company to book with.

I hunted with Abie last Sept. and took buff, croc, hippo and some other plainsgame. He handled the hunt perfectly for me.
Muchinga is a top notch outfit.

My husband and I hunted with Abie last year. We both took buffalo, puku, black lechwe and I also took Cookson wildebeest and croc.

Abie is an absolute blast. We would love to hunt with him again. He is about 15 years older than Johnny and a very, very experienced PH. My husband is nearly blind and Abie was able to get him on all the game that he was after. I posted a hunt report here on AR, if you search the Hunt Reports.

We met Johnny too. I don't think you could go wrong with either, but Abie kept us laughing for 10 days.

PM me if you have any particular questions.

Best regards, D. Nelson
