I have searched the forum, and have not found anything on brokers to get trophys home. I thought there was a thread on being your own broker or something. Can anyone advise me on some options for my first trip to Namibia. I have heard stories of hijacked crates, missing horns, etc. I am having my mounts done over in Namibia if it makes a difference. Thanks,

Eric

I have used Coppersmith's on both my shipments. There Atlanta office is 404-766-0111.

Here is a thread from not too long ago.

There are two real adventures in hunting Africa; one is having you and your checked bags (including your gun cases) arrive at the same destination as you on the same day. And the second adventure is getting your trophies back intact with only moderate drama.

I don't think there is a Customs Broker we could name that won't generate both cheers and boos. I've had good luck with Fauna & Flora Customsbrokers in New York (other's haven't). And Coppersmith? I used them three times and discovered that they were padding the bill with stuff they never did (discovered when my shipment was pilfered while in their custody).

My suggestion is to talk to the taxidermist you plan to use. Make sure they have experience with African trophies and receiving shipments. Go with who they work with. Then, if it goes bad, you will have somebody in your corner that can raise hell with them.

Thanks for the replys. My taxidermy will be done in Africa, so no taxidermist to contact over here. Can I be my own broker?

Eric:
I can give you a couple names of taxidermist and shippers I won't be using again. If your interested, PM me.
If you want to research the regs, and take the time, you can broker your own trophies, if they are mounted and ready for display. Raw untanned ungulates, warthogs, baboons and cats are not so easy. I did it last year in Anchorage, took me about an hour.
