I've done some internet searching but haven't seen this question addressed

Can a hunter bring two rifles in to Namibia chambered in the same cartridge? (two 300 Mags for example)

I know it's a not allowed in RSA but haven't heard it mentioned about Namibia.

(I haven't been to Namibia since 2008 and it looks like my next hunt will be there)

Frank contact Namibia Professional Hunting Association at info@napha.com.na

You are allowed 100 rounds per rifle, but there is no regulation that I know of on bringing the same caliber in multiple rifles. Best to check and also bring the printed info with you when you arrive. Sometimes to folks at the airport are a little clueless on the regs.

Here is a link for your rifle permit - http://www.napha-namibia.com/f...rmit_Application.pdf

Remember you will not be able to transit through SA with two of the same caliber. So you will need to fly Qatar Air or similar to avoid JNB which is a very good idea anyhow...

Thanks guys, I have the rifle permit off the internet but was just curious about the same cartridges. I'm taking a friend who's never hunted out of the US and he wants to bring two identical 300 Mags (primary and back up).

The last time I went to Namibia I traveled United to London and Namibia Air to Windhoek but I believe that route is gone.

If I have to go through Jo'Berg do I have to worry about my guns through Jo'Berg and their rules?

When I flew United/SAA to Bulawayo, I checked my gun in Los Angeles and picked it up in Bulawayo without having to touch it in OR Tambo, (No permit or anything).

Even transiting through JNB will require you to follow SA rules and regs - no two rifles of the same caliber/case.

If you fly Atlanta - Doha - Windhoek on Qatar Air traveling with rifles is a breeze plus it's one of the best airlines in the world.

I'll have a definitive answer for you shortly on the same caliber question...

I just returned from Namibia in August. Their 1 page Police Firearms Permit and their LEO are very hunter friendly. My permit wound up going through the wash. Easily taken care of at the airport at departure- afterwards the Sgt that took care of me wound up at the Xray table and she started laughing joked around with me. They won't give you trouble in Windhoek.

If you don't want to screw with SA Customs/SAP 520 I'd suggest you plan for the shortest layover in Jburg to ensure that your rifles will be ticketed to Windhoek ie your final destination. No baggage claim in Jburg- no BS. Now that may mean an extra stop, but well worth it. That was suggested to me by mt travel agent. I'm glad she did.

If the two 300 Win are identical, do they shoot the same ammo? Regardless, 50/60 of one head stamp and 50/40 of another......and besides it's a back up.

Straight from the horse's mouth (Dr. Hoffmann from PHASA) - Yes, you can legally bring two rifles of the same caliber and case size (for instance, two .338 Win Mags). Best to pack ammo (100 rounds max for one rifle) in blue boxes and the other 100 rounds in red boxes to differentiate between the two rifles.

If you get hung up in Customs for any reason regarding firearms related issues, keep this info handy - Mr.Volker Grellmann - Ombudsman Namibia Professional Hunters Association +264 81 124 4848 anvo@mweb.com.na

Thanks guys,

I have to fly on United as I'm using my airmiles to pay for the tickets. United says that I can check my bags from LAX straight through to Windhoek and the guns will go straight through without being opened in OR Tambo so I don't need a SAP520. I've done that before to Zim and transiting England and Germany.

If you check your guns straight through...can't see how SAPS would ever know they came through.

Yep, all my original question addressed was if Namibia bans two guns with the same chambering. I couldn't find the information online so I though that I'd ask here.
