Since the topic of what boots are durable enough to take on safari comes up here from time to time, I thought I would let you all know that I finally wore out a pair of Courteney Scouts. I got them new in June of 2004.
They were purchased from a friend who bought them and then didn't like the way they fit.
Now I have hunted a nd worked in all sorts of conditions with these boots on. I have worn them just about every weekend since they were bought. I couldn't even begin to tell you how many miles over various types of terrain and in how many horrid weather conditions these boots have trekked. The soles finally seperated the other day. Hell it was sad. I just cant let them go so I am taking them in to have them resoled (sp) and when the leather finally turns to dust, I might think about letting these double rugged boots rest in peace. But until then...
So anywho, if you are looking for a pair of boots that won't let you down on that safari of a lifetime, invest in some Courteneys.

Brian:
If you or someone you know is going to Bulawayo in Zim, you can have the boots re-soled while you're hunting. It used to be free but not sure if there is a cost these days.

I'll have but a day in Harare. Is there any place to pick up a new pair while I'm there?

Mark,
If they are still doing business, there was a gun shop in Harare run to two brothers or cousins or something. Basil and Dazzle or something to that end. The name of their shop is/was Hunters Paradise. They used to stock Courteneys. Even if they don't, their shop is still worth a prowl around. There is some very interesting stuff in that old shop.

I came within a nat's a$$ of buying a pair of Selous' last weekend in Birmingham at Mark's Outdoors. They've been getting them thru Westley Richards, so of course they were $300. I just talked myself out of them in hopes someone may have them in Dallas in January, even if it is Westly Richards, maybe there'll be more choices. But I agree, they are comfortable, right off the shelf.
