Dogcat,

Rich Elliot who posts here represents ERVS who do all or most of the Mouontain Nyala safaris offered each year. Search on his name and email him. I'm sure he has hunted them and can put you in touch with clients.

I would love to hunt Ethopia, particularly for east african species. It's not cheap however...

Good luck;
Brett

Brett,
I have contacted Rich, a good guy and reputable. I am trying to find out about the hunt, the experience, Ethiopia, the people, etc. I am not much on lions and elephants. I like plains game and the mountain nyala looks fun.

I hope I hear from someone.

Hi DC,
I haven't done it because I can't afford it but I agree, it looks great. From what I've read, the ranges tend to be quite long by Africa standards and mountain nyala are rather larger than the common variety. Figure elk vs mule deer. Hence the recommended cartridge is something along the lines of the .338 Win, slightly larger than .30 cal and flat-shooting. There doesn't seem to be much else that lives up high in the Mtn nyala country so it's quite the specialized hunt, worse even than bongo. However, it is a most magnificant animal and I hope you get a good one. I'd sure like to . . . someday . . .

DC, there was a guy who was going over for EA plainsgame last year with ERVS that posted here. Hope he sees this and responds. Perhaps you should post asking if there is anyone who has hunted Ethopia.

Sarge, I have a price list that Rich sent last year that lists a 3 day add-on in the OMO area that allows you to hunt lesser kudu or gerenuk or tiang , grants and dik-dik. There is bushbuck, reedbuck, duiker , hyena, colobus monkey and giant forest hog available on the MN safari.

I really want to do EA plainsgame in Ethopia but the cost is sooooo high and no cats available to Americans...

Best regards;
Brett

Guys,

I don't recall anyone who posts on AR besides Steve Richards who has hunted with us and that was in the good old days!.

The quotas keep getting smaller. The 3 day add-on for Omo is now limited to Lesser kudu, N. Grants Gazelle, and Guenther's dik-dik.

Bookings are way out there (2007-08) timewise and most Mt. Nyala safaris are for Mt. Nyala, Menelik's Bushbuck and Colobus. There are very few licenses for Giant Forest Hog, Bohor Reedbuck, or East African Bush Duiker and they go fast. That said, we had a fellow take a Bohor last week that will rank # 4 and everyone saw that picture of the new # 2 Mt. Nyala taken in March. A new # 1 Lesser kudu wasa taken the previous March. The quotas must be working to some extent as quality continues to be very high.

We have top ten specimens this year of
Nile Crocodile
Mountain Nyala
Menelik's Bushbuck
Abbyssinian Bohor Reedbuck
Neumans Hartebeest
Lesser Kudu
Northern Grants Gazelle

Some more than once.

Rich Elliott

Hey Rich, good to see things are going so well. Did those Nile lechwe hunts ever reach fruition?
BTW who sets these quotas, anti-hunters?
You will see minimum 7-10 bush duiker in an evening on our farm just outside Addis!

Yes, to some degree. We have a constant battle within the game dept between the pro's & con's.

Yes, but that's neither an open area nor a controlled hunting area (Concession) and you wouldn't believe what would be involved to make it one.
