Saeed Moderators and esteemed AR guests // herewith the latest update in it's entirety from our good friend Gerhard in South Africa .. It goes without saying how much we all appreciate the efforts of Gerhard and his dedicated team to keep us informed worldwide on developements Regards, Peter -- in NZ ---------------------------- Dear Peter Bird: With this email you are receiving African Indaba Volume 3/Number 4 – another information packed issue about African wildlife, incentive based conservation and safari hunting. We continue the discussion of various aspects of safari hunting and I would like to reiterate my invitation to readers for feedback and comments. This is particularly important for South African readers as the Department of Environmental Affairs & Tourism has initiated a thorough review of all aspects of hunting in the country. Here is a great opportunity to engage decision makers in a meaningful debate on policy development and African Indaba intends to continue a catalyst role. I am also very proud to be able to introduce to you the new African Indaba website. This new website would not have been possible without the dedicated work and expertise of Andreas Jarisch of Bishops Lodge in Port Elizabeth . He single handedly designed and produced the website in more than a couple of night shifts. Thank you, Andreas! From this website you can now download the current and all previous issues of African Indaba in PDF format. Each current issue can also be read online. We will include additional and current information on this site in future, so make sure to visit http://www.africanindaba.co.za often. Please forward the July issue of African Indaba and this message to others who, according to your opinion are interested in African wildlife conservation issues and the sustainable use of these resources. They might well be able and willing to contribute to the dialogue. Articles from African Indaba and/or the entire newsletter can be used for publishing in printed or electronic media provided you acknowledge the source. Please inform us by email when you use African Indaba material. The feedback from our readers who experienced downloading problems with previous issues was encouraging. Most of those who contacted us had no more problems. With the new African Indaba Website I certainly hope that any lingering problems will be overcome. Thanks. That´s a very interesting newsletter containing lots of good info. The issue of strategy on the right to hunt is an important one, globally in particular. I find that some of our youth even in rural societies turn to the urban folly that Mr Swanevelder speaks of. The rational and important aspect of sustainable use as an ethical foundation for ourselves as predators with values is the most important issue for hunters today. Those of us who are politically inclined must indeed read what Mr Swanevelder has to say and act locally aswell as globally. I will, although I am not inclined that way Boha | |||
