I have a zebra skin that was put away and must have had some moisture in certain spots. When I took it out I found that some mould had eaten into it and created some holes in it. The holes are on the rear end, where the crease in the legs was. Can anyone suggest what I could do with this skin? I would be prepared to cut it up to make cuscions, belts, whatever but slightly loathed to do so if the skin can be saved. Can skins be restored?

You might check with MILLER TROPHY ROOM PRESERVATION & RESTORATION. I know they specialize in dermestid beetle damage, and other issues. maybe they have some insight into the problem.

Go shoot a new zebra. That is just enough of a reason to head back to Africa.

Sell it on EBay those idiots will buy anything! LOL Tell them the holes were chewed by hyenas or some such thing. I recently saw 10 EMPTY 303 British shell casings fetching a bid of nearly $40.00 Live Your Dreams

In year 1999 I took a 25 year old Zebra skin out of my Mother-in-laws attic that she had bought from a roadside stand in Tanzania. It had a large rip of 12-15 inches in one of the haunches, had been urinated on by the dog and had been in the heated attic of Florida for over 15 years. My taxidermist had it "restored", the rip repaired (it is almost impossible to find) and a felt backing with hanging rings on it. It is beautiful and looks great in the living room. Don't give up on it until you get an opinion from your taxidermist.

When I worked at a Taxidermist shop, we repaired a number of skins for a museum. Your local Taxidermist should be able to help with this.

Panel some photo albums with the good skin pieces and use/sell/give as gifts. It's leather - have some fun - frame a picture or panel a lamp base or stitch up a nightie for the significant other - ???

I was hoping someone would post the "real story" of Barnum. I remembered reading it in his biography but couldn't remember who had said it other than W.C. Fields. Frank

Make a "Beretta" style leather arm chair out of it. Look at the Beretta website, on one of their downloadable catalogues they have leather armchairs where the back rest is a zebra skin. Also in the SCI magazine adverts a while back.
