I post this here because I got them for my Africa trip.
I was at the range yesterday doing some training, my last "real" work day, so I took my new binos to give them a work out.
I have been using 8x30 Swarovski's for several years. They stayed in Africa after my 2004 trip./ In the meantime I have been using my old Swarovski 7x42 Habight, good glasses but big.
So I bought a pair of Leica 8x42 Geovids. The ones with the built in rangefinder. They are a little heavier and bigger than my old 8x32's, but my oh my are they bright. The built in rangefinder should prove to be a big advantage as you do not have to carry 2 things, and more importantly you do not have to "dig out" your rangefinder when you spot game. MUCH more faster and convenient.
I wore them all day and they did not become a burden. The rangefinder works very well.
So far I like them.
As a side note I wear my bino's up high on my chest, ie I shorten the strap so I can just barely get them over my head. I like this much better than the typical "African" carry, over one shoulder hanging on your off side. I always have too much stuff on my belt [pistol knife, leatherman, etc]. Plus I can get them up to my eyes with a minimal amount of movement.

Have you tried one of the bikini harnesses? These are my favorites for wearing binos.

I have 8x32 Leicas and love them, but for elephant walks I think I am going to try the compact 8x20's on a shortened strap like you describe.

Anymore thoughts on my stock?

Congrats on your last day!

I think I would check into modifying the right side of the stock, leaving the cheekpiece alone.

First Congratulations for your retirement.

I am owning a Geovid rangefinder too, a 8x56.

I am just back from the CAR and I missed them badly because I hunted night and day for leopard and bongo.

Why don't You wear Your binos under your left armpit. This way they aren't dangling but are kept snug against your body and they don't impede when creeping.
Here is a pic of my PH, look at the
binos strap.

By the way I am using Zeiss and Swaro binos and scopes..........but the Leica Geovid are the best, easily and by far.
I wish You good luck and plenty of fun.

465H&H Thanks.

Jean I will give that technique a try.
What is the story on the short shotgun? What loads are you using in it. I assume it is for leopard follow up, is it a single shot or a double?

I have the same question abouth the shotgun. It looks like a little sawed off 12 gauge. He has a nice holster for it.

Mink and Wall Tents don't go together. Especially when you are sleeping in the Wall Tent.

Oh you didn't know? Tony's job was to "take out the trash", so to speak. Or better yet - gorilla control specialist. Even again - high potentate and supreme mucky-muck.
Good luck on all your future endeavours Tony. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy. Just leave some damn elephants in Zim for me. At least one!

My "job" was also to keep Okies from being killed, gutted, and burned by Somali Taxi Drivers.
I will save you a couple of elephants in Zim, but when I leave they will be pissed off, better get yourself a double, you were lucky with your bolt rifle on your first hunt. Big Grin

Tony, Sierra,

This is a sawed up one-barelled 12 gauge, made in Spain, the cheap Astra. The ammo are the 12 nickeled pellets cartridges for leopard (We were after leopard).

The PH is using it when in deep cover and in places where snakes crowd.
So this arm is designed as a sprayer first for snakes and is great when cornered in tight spots, especially when elbow clearance is scarce.
