Sorry to start this again. Some of the searchs for this topic are real old. Leaving Friday for my first South Africa 6 day plains game hunt seven animals. Hunting private property but required to hire a P.H. and tracker for the 6 days. Paying the P.H his daily fee. No trophy fees involved. If He does a good job and I am happy what is the customary range for a tip. Thanks to all for the replies.

joe -- Might be best to hit the "find" button and type in 'tipping.' I came up with 17 pages. Lots of info. Good luck on your trip.

I would tip him the equivalent of one days fee if you are very happy with his performance. There are a million opinions on this and the one day rule seemed appropriate as any other suggestion. ______________________ I don't shoot elk at 600 yards for the same reasons I don't shoot ducks on the water, or turkeys from their roosts. If this confuses you then you're not welcome in my hunting camp.

My policy, if he isn't lazy and gives you a good hunt and good animals, would be to give 10% of the daily rate as a tip to the PH. The tracker would get less (probably 300 to 500 Rand) and would get paid in Rand since they can't exchange foreign currency. If the services aren't good with wasted time, poor trophies, etc., I wouldn't tip at all.
