Sources in South Africa tell me that Janneman Groenewald, brother of Dawie Groenewald died in the last few days of a heart attack or something that appeared to be a heart attack. This has not been confirmed in the media and I've found no obituary, however, considering the source I feel sure it is accurate information. Just wondering if anyone else has heard anything about this or knows any further details concerning his alleged death. This puts to rest any fears Janneman might have had about extradition to the US for money laundering, extortion, etc. It also stops any possibility of him cutting a side deal to talk about the larger implications of their rhino poaching syndicate in exchange for immunity from prosecution. Is this the brother that was formerly married to the U.S. lady (Jacksonville, FL I believe?) that got an RSA P.H. license? JudgeG ... just counting time 'til I am again finding balm in Gilead chilled out somewhere in the Selous.

Yes, for a while she was called Teressa Groenewald-Hagerman. Hagerman is her maiden name. She was originally from a small town in the Texas Panhandle. Lived in Kansas City with Janneman, then lived in Jacksonville after the divorce. She was the first woman to kill an elephant with a bow and got the animal rights fanatics in a frenzy. Since then, she has kept out of the spotlight. Does anyone know if he is dead or not? This should be common knowledge in South African safari circles. Send me a private message if you don't want to post openly. I will keep anything you say confidential. According to an Afrikaans newspaper article, he passed away on 27 December presumably due to a heart attack. Here is a link to the newspaper article: https://www.pressreader.com/so...1228/281513637272286 Regards, Johan

I have no idea if he is dead or not. I would point out that the outfitter in the notorious $70,000 sheep hunting scam faked his death. Notices were in the newspaper. He is alive and well. Again, I have no idea if the guy is dead or not.

There has been so many funny turns in this criminal investigation, one would not be surprised if this was a way of getting a3ay with it. Not the first time someone involved in hunting who claimed of dying when he was hiding.

Frankly, I have absolutely no sympathy for these criminals, and the corrupt officials who are making sure they do not get punished! How many times has their case been postponed? How come court dockets seem to get lost?? South African corruption at its best!

There is no doubt corruption exists in every country. But from what we see South Africa has taken it to new heights. Does anyone imagine all the crimes in South Africa would be as bad as they are without utter, senseless corruption? Members of their parliament are publicly talking of exterminating white people?? Every single friend I know who visited South Africa, and stayed in a big city has been robbed!! One friend had his hous broken into, and shot in the knee! Not a single arrest has ever been made!! How come all these crimes stopped during the FIFA World Cup??

You sound hurt and upset about this turn of events. Condolences on the loss of your friend. I am interested in his death because he was part of one of the largest and most notorious rhino poaching and smuggling gangs in South Africa. Due to the criminal nature of this investigation, I thought if anyone was afraid to openly comment, they could contact me in private to protect their identity. I am not happy to hear of Janneman's death. Unfortunately, a potential source of information about the interworkings of the rhino poaching mafia is no longer available. Alan Bunn, for your information I have never met the man in my life, however for such a clever guy like you with all your resources, how come you could not find out in 7 days that the man passed away? Seriously I hope you are not involved in trying to figure out this whole rhino poaching thing they will than never find the culprits... and for your information I am a rhino owner my self. Johan, that is the same article that I found and was published on December 28th. I found it on line on December 28 so it was available for anyone if they had done an internet search. I find it surprising someone who has allegedly "never met the man in my life" and who is "a rhino owner myself" would express such an inordinate amount of emotional distress concerning any efforts to confirm the death of a leader of the most notorious criminal rhino poaching gang in modern history. Email and text reports saying someone with a fairly common name is dead do not replace actual obituaries or news reports in the media. It is not sufficient to hear reports through the grapevine he is dead; it is crucial to confirm he is dead before reporting it as a fact. If no credible confirmation comes about from a Google search, then other resources have to be deployed, which is exactly what has been done. There are no such reports in English on Google and even the Afrikaans report at the link above does not show up. It was unexpected to hear a fit 48-year-old outdoorsman should die at such a convenient time, however, heart attacks can occur at any age. Interesting that you said, “I hope you are not involved in trying to figure out this whole rhino poaching thing they will than never find the culprits”. In case you are unaware of ongoing investigations, it has already been figured out by the USFWS and Interpol. And, with the funding of Islamic terrorists from poaching, it is no longer merely a law enforcement issue. State intelligence organizations of the Western democracies such as the CIA, MI6, etc. are now involved in identifying the additional players. Too bad they now have one less perpetrator to interrogate. Contrary to your stated opinion, many of the culprits have already been found and, at some point, will be extradited to the United States. With the loss of this one potential informant, who is to say how many others may be under consideration. So, unless you have any further objections, the work up the food chain will continue. Which also brings to mind the untimely demise of Wayne Lotter, murdered and robbed of his personal items whose contents very likely contained incriminating evidence on some high profile characters. Who knows, maybe Janneman and some of his associates might have been among them.

Alan Bunn "emotional distress" it must have being late at night when you were writing this..."once again I have never met the man, so this "allegedly" word is almost laughable " "emotional distress LOL" Next time just use google and say translate... and you will have the answer....You might want to take up another cause and stop worrying about the person that passed and that is rather try and convince CITIES to legalize the trade in rhino horn that way we as farmers can actually justify spending all this thousands on dollars on protecting them!! OOOO one more thing I have no objections never had you might want to read my posts again.... The very fact this has been languishing for so many years in the RSA courts that defendants are dying tells me all I need to know about this case ever bringing a bunch of poachers/illegal traders to justice. It’s blatantly obvious that justice in RSA IS BOUGHT AND SOLD REGULARLY, JUST LIKE RHINO HORN! This type of crap doesn’t occur in a vacuum and the powers that be are complicit. There's too much money involved so the chances of a game-change is non-conducive to the "cartel". One thing to note is that trafficking in ivory and rhino horn foresees participation of govt. officials and there isn't a chance in hell that they are going to piss in their well. Its not for nothing that a Rhino is known as a "walking bank account".

A contact of mine who's a Detective WO in the HAWKS Wildlife Crime unit says he has died. No supporting information, but seeing as how it was in the press, that's opening it up to every investigative journalist and his dog, so it seems true.
