I've been to Zim twice but the most recent time was when the Zim dollar was 46 to 1 against the US dollar -- sometime ago to be sure.

How are things going over there - don't hear much of anything in the news?

Is there inflation coming under control?

Are some of the concessions still owned by someone who has been proscribed by the US Government? I had a great hunt in Matesi 6 when it was OK.

Zimbabwe has abandoned it's own currency and has adopted the US dollar which is helping a great deal. It is still a great place to hunt and I would recommend going back as soon as you are able.

Bill - the currency standard in Zim is now the US dollar. I would recommend taking $100 in small bills when you go in case you need to pay for something in the city. I can't answer your question about the concessions. I can tell you that Chifuti is still going strong as are the safari operators in the Save Conservancy. Overall, conditions are much more relaxed than when I first went in 2008. I went out to dinner in Harare, went to the flea market in the city, and visited my PHs kids at their boarding schools in the country before flying to camp. There were no problems that I noticed. A point of humor was the restaurant where I ate dinner in Harare ( I forget the name). Anyway, they advertised secure parking. When we got there, there was a guy with an AK-47 patrolling the restaurant parking area. Now that is secure parking!

Bill, I was there in 2008, 2010, and 2011. I agree with Subsailer in that things seem more relaxed than 08. I hunted with Charlton McCallum Safaris both times in 10, and 11 and plan to go back with them in 12 and 13. It really is still a great place to hunt. I highly recommend going back if you get a chance.

My wife and I have hunted there 60+ days in the last three years without any problems. I'll be there 21 days in June with my wife and another couple along for the trip.

No problems whatsoever for us.

I spent about 20 years hunting Mexico and I bugged off in 2005. I have been to Zim 5 times since 98 so I have seen the "change" firsthand. I would not hesitate for a second to go back to Zim and already have another trip planned. I would not go back to Mexico unless I had plenty of life insurance and had completely lost my mind! Doesn't mean I don't miss the hunting down south, especially right now with the bucks rutting!!!
Do your homework on who you hunt with in Zim and book with a reputable outfitter. You'll be fine!

I hunted there in August. Felt perfectly safe the whole time with the exception of everyone I came into contact with had their hand out for whatever they thought they did. Noticeably worse than Moz and S. Africa. I will go back and hunt there again.

Made my first trip, with my son, to Zim, last summer. The people were absolutely fabulous and very gracious. I wouldn't hesitate to go to Zim, again, in a heart beat.

I was there in 2004, 2006, 2010 and on November 19 of this year. It appears that things have been improving generally since a low point of 2006. The adoption of the us dollar made money changing a less lucrative endeavor and put food back on the shelves. You still need to be careful and many of the game farms are gone but national parks is still functioning and the govt game areas have fared well.
