Well the new hunting season is upon us and I know some of my compadre's are already on safari with clients; all in all it's time to get in some serious range time and put the intrepid hunter and DGR through their collective paces.

Fortunately, our Big Bore Association has regular practical big bore events which provide the much needed practice and a chance to burn some powder. I've added a few pictures here of said "practice sessions"

Hope you enjoy the pics.

PS - we are working at expanding the Big Bore association internationally and may soon have a chapter in the USA.

Very neat! I like the pics. Your bushlane looks awfully like the "jungle lane" used by Jeff Cooper in his Safari Prep Class when he used to hold them. Seems right at home when I saw the pic of the guy wearing an autoloader.

Lo do they call to me,
They bid me take my place
among them in the Halls of Valhalla,
Where the brave may live forever.

A bunch of us, including the guy with the autoloader, used to shoot Practical Pistol which included few championships held locally which were supported by the late Col. Jeff himself. Our Big Bore ranges have a lot in common with the old style IPSC shoots and we place as much emphasis on the combo of accuracy, power and speed.

So I guess some of the jungle / bush lane ranges should look familiar!

Hi Mike,

Tis a 505 Gibbs. We a have a number of shooters who shoot 500 Jeff and 505 Gibbs. Kevin "Doctari" Robinson shoots with us and puts his Dumoulin, on Brevex action, in 505 Gibbs to very effective use.

Regards

Eland Slayer,

The double cooler was built by one of our members and local gunsmith, Eugene Combrink of Sabi Rifles.

Works a treat!!

Keith,

It is a whole heap of fun! And for many folk, is a great way to learn, practice, and get proficient with a big bore under the type of conditions associated with hunting dangerous game.

Our next shoot is on 21 April at the Big Bore Assoc's range in Pretoria, RSA and any local posters here who are interested in joining in should contact me for more info.

I would like to be with you, but Big Bore Assoc's range in Pretoria, RSA, is just too far for me to spend a week end.
