There are two different types of Donated hunts #1 Forced Donation In order to gain access to better locations at most large events an outfitter must donated a hunt. The better the donation (true value), the better the space! A donated $3500-$5000 caribou hunt will likely get you into a side hallway, and a $40,000-$60,000 everything included DG hunt will get you into one of the best locations. These hunts usually sell for full retail. #2 Marketing Donations Outfitters market /sell their hunts thru wildlife organizations in the form of donations. These hunts usually sell for 5%-30% of the suggested retail value. Outfitters usually donate the daily fees. In the last few years some organizations have cracked down and required some trophy fees to also be donated, you now see donated hunts with trophy fees for 2-3 small inexpensive animals included Springbok,Steenbok,Duiker,Impala,Warthog. Outfitters market these hunts to make a profit! They could care less if you pay $100 or $3000 for their hunt( they only get of the money ). One way or another they will make money off you. The most common way is to inflate trophy fees three to four hundreds for each animal. If you add in a few more fees for capping, boxing, transportation of trophies to the taxidermist. The outfitter will make his profit. Here are trophy fees for my upcoming April hunt. Compare them to any Donated hunt. Mountain Zebra 600,00 US$ Steenbok 250,00 US$ Springbok 350,00 US$ Warthog 316,00 US$ Caracal 150,00 US$ Eland 1050,00 US$ Impala (Common) 440,00US$ Klipp Springer 250,00 US$ Kudu 600,00 US$ Cheetah 2000,00 US$ Leopard 2500,00 US$ Oryx 400,00 US$ Hartebeest (Red) 435,00 US$ Baboon 50,00 US$ Osterich 450,00US$ Jakal Free of charge

Thanks for the replies. This is just the kind of info I'm looking for. More responses are surely welcome. This website never fails to amaze me. The level of expertize here is astounding. I casually mention, "The Devil's in the Details",and no less of an authority than Robert Johnson himself sheds some light on the subject! Thanks Mr Johnson. I've always been a big fan of Blues Music. I also think your opinion of using an agent is wise council and am leaning in that direction.( and I appologize in advance for a twisted sense of humor) But...paying 33% of "donated value" sounds awfully good to a working slob like me. Good enough for further investigation. Is this site great or what....? Elmo

Elmo, I have purchased four African offerings; two hunts, one RSA Tour, and one week at a big named "photo safari lodge" in RSA. The five day tour was outstanding. The two hunts were good, (I extended and bought extra trophies). The week at the big-named lodge was a bit disappointing. I was put up in lesser accomadations and told I could upgrade to the pretty lodge on the cover of the brochure. They charged for everything, and that is how they make their money. I really wonder what the future is on the entire hunt auction business at SCI. There is a lot of bargain bidding only going on amongst bidders. The PH/Outfitters are getting tired of $3000 hunts going for $800. Then those that buy these bargains expect to get a $5000 hunt for their $800.
