Here are the pics of my buff from the Tanzania hunt that Wendell Reich helped me straighten out. The first buff went 43 inches.

The second buff went 46 inches.

The PH is Brian Van Blerk. The 46 incher is a bit soft on the boss but I couldn't pass him up. We were within 30 yrds and the stalk took about 2 hours with the last 45 minutes spent at those 30 yrds trying to see the horns. Brian finally saw the head and he told me to shoot it. All I could see was a small patch of neck thru a " V " in two trees. I was confident enough in the Ruger to take the spine/neck shot. The buff fell in his tracks. These were my first two buff ever. Needless to say I am happy with them....................JJ

Very nice, well done.

Are these from a recent hunt? I thought the season in Tanzania didn't open until July 1.

Great Hunt!

How about bullet/caliber details for us ballistic nerds.

What are you shooting:

375 H&H?
416 Rigby?
458 Lott?

What bullet(s), loads, velocities, etc.

Thanks!

Tim

Shumba, I used a Ruger 416 Rigby. It was the only rifle I took on this hunt. I used Federal 400 gn Nosler Partitions and Federal 400 TBBC Solids, luckily they printed to the exact same point of impact with great accuracy. I used a 1.25 x 4 power illuminated retical Swaro scope. I took plains game out to 230 yrds and felt I had plenty of scope.

Geronomo,

You have a point, I am going back to Tanzania in Sept. but the way I feel the pressure is off. I can go, have a good time and just enjoy Africa. I know odds are I won't top them buts thats OK. The stalk sent chills up my back, and that will be the same on a 38 or 48 inch buff, its really about the hunting.................JJ

IMHO, there are few rifles that say "safari" as well as the Ruger RSM's. I shoot M70's, but have always liked the look of an RSM in a safari picture. Very, very nice buf.

Is this the Swaro with a 98 ft. field of view? How's the eye relief?

To all, I was able to hunt both camps, Lobo and Lokisale, we saw good bulls in both. I was there mid-november.

I am not sure of the field of view on the scope. The eye relief is very generous.
