Man survives leopard attack Victoria Falls Reporter November 4, 2010 A villager from Mpumalanga extension in Mbembesi is admitted at Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo where he is recovering after surviving a leopard attack. Matabeleland North provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Trust Ndlovu, confirmed the incident, which he said took place last Friday at about 4pm. He said Mr Edward Mabola (48) was admitted at Mpilo Central Hospital after suffering multiple injuries following the attack by the leopard. “We received a case of a villager who was attacked by a leopard. Trouble started when two villagers, Mr Abraham Vilana and Mr Keith Mzumbane, also from Mpumalanga extension, spotted a leopard in the bush. “Their two dogs then started chasing after the leopard, which then stopped, attacked and killed one of the dogs,” said Insp Ndlovu. He said the barking of the other dog alerted Mr Milton Mwandile (46) and Mr Mabula of the same village who proceeded to the bush to investigate. “In the bush they ran into Vilana and Mzumbane who were running away from the leopard. The leopard chased after the four and they ran in different directions.” Mr Mabula was caught and mauled by the leopard. “The other three, Mwandile, Vilana and Mzumbane later returned to the bush to check for Mabula as they had heard him screaming,” said Insp Ndlovu. Insp Ndlovu said they found Mr Mabula on the ground with multiple deep cuts all over his body. “They went and reported the matter to the police and Mr Mabula was taken to Mpilo Central Hospital. Police attended the scene but failed to locate the animal,” he said. Kathi kathi@wildtravel.net 708-425-3552 "The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page." | ||
