Just had a good laugh. PHASA just sent me a newsletter and there's a fantastic job opportunity in it...... KZN wildlife are looking for someone with DG experience willing to babysit a bunch of students in a Dangerous Game area for a few weeks. The lucky job winner will be fortunate enough to share a room with 8 students, and everyone gets to share a single toilet and shower. They also get to buy their own food and cook for themselves and supply their own rifle and ammo. Working hours are from 0600 till dinnertime with some night work included........ and they're willing to pay the princely sum of R150 (US$25) per day - I'm sure they'll be flooded with applicants! jumping

You have to read the advertisement fully before rejecting it ....

quote:
St Felicity's Finishing School for Young Ladies is looking for an experienced male Professional Hunter of a fit, active and pleasant nature to escort and chaperone eight eighteen year old female students for three weeks in the bush as part of their finishing and rounding off year. You must be willing to share the eight bunk chalet with one toilet and outside communal shower with the students, and willing to acquaint them with the pleasures of the bush on a group basis and on a one by one basis, day and night. Board is provided but you must bring your own food, rifle ammunition and fully loaded pistol. Applications must be made in person to the school principal, Miss Felicity Shagsalot.

It might be fun but Thea will get the Russian minister of family planning to take care of me.

I wil rather pass on this oportunity, though the thought of the fun is quite pleasing

A PH I hunted with did something very similar on a regular basis. It was kids from the UK, mostly delinquents and troubled kids. I think he did it early in his career for the experience rather than the money.

He had sort of the same attitude "wow, maybe they'll be some hotties". After he met them and got to know them, he quickly took on the father figure role, because he saw they were, after all, just kids, and that he was in a great position to be a positive influence on them.

He thought the experience of being in the bush, especially for city kids, was a very positive thing for them.

All kidding aside, I would like to think that any member of this board who was put in a position of trust with teenagers, and with the opportunity to show them something of the outdoor life would be rewarded beyond the $25 a day.

(Why is it every sentence I write, I am scrutinizing it for double meanings? rotflmo)

Don't mean to be a wet blanket, but my daughter is a young teenager, and one's attitude changes when one has this perspective.

All joking aside, I'd be happy to do it if it would help young students - but US$25 a day is ridiculous........ If I had to fire one shot in the air to turn an animal, I'd be spending a large part of the days pay! - then not to offer a seperate room to the hired help and tell him he has to buy and prepare his own food just adds insult to injury......

This could turn out like the man who was stranded on a desert island with 6 beautiful girls.

He was so elated, he gathered the girls together, and told them he would be happy to look after them - one each day.

He had orgenized so that he had one girl each day of the week, starting from Monday.

He had Sunday as his day of rest.

This went on for a few weeks, and he had the time of his life. Then he started to get worn out.

One day he saw something floating far off shore, and as it got closer, he saw a man on an old raft.

He was so happy to see him, he swam out to meet him. As he got to the raft, he said:

"Am I glad to see you"
The other person answered (you have to do one of those gestures queers do with their hands) "I am glad to see YOU too!"

Our friend, slapping his forhead, said "there goes my Sundays!!!"

PHASA has a lot to answer for, for getting my hopes falsely up. Roll Eyes

PS I was wondering about only eight bunks for eight young ladies AND one beefy PH. That makes NINE! I think they either miscounted OR are encouraging non-lady-like and non-professional behaviour! Mad

Yeah and the third one from the left is also not practicing very good gun safety. If she's not careful she's going to possibly blow off her left breast! By the way, it looks like they were successful in their "hunt". Are those quail that the young miss is holding?
