I will be hunting out of Ellisras sometime in 2013, and was wondering about weather, and favorite seasons for this area. Will be hunting plains game. Any advice/experiences most welcome.

I have hunted there different times of the year and would recommend June or July. Definitely don't see as many snakes when it's colder.

Bill,

donner has it right in my opinion. It will be dry, leaves will mostly be gone and grass down making for better visibility. Also the animals will be concentrated near water rather than spread over the property. All this makes for better hunting. It will be hot but not intolerable and far cooler than the areas to the north at that time of year.

It can get flat out cold, in July in the high 30's and 40's is not uncommon--especially comming out of summer time here in the states.

I like hunting Aug- September--but the later you go, you have to worry about rain and the snakes. We killed 2 cobras within 2 days of one another in our camp this year. A Moz spitting cobra, and a banded snouted cobra. Here is a pick of the snouted cobra:

Ed, I was going to say you could make him into a spare belt, but by the picture, it doesn't look like he'd be near long enough :-)

I've only hunted there at the end of May and the beginning of June, but the weather was fantastic both times, and so was the hunting.

Cheers

We have hunted Limpopo in June and in September. June was too cold for my liking.

Much prefered September. It's nice to be able to hunt in a T-shirt for a change.

After Sept airfare drops about 5-600 dollars per roundtrip ticket from Atlanta.
Plus I like it warm not cold

As seen above it depends on how you like to hunt.
I get enough hot weather hunting at home. So i have been once in July and once in August. I much prefer the cool nights and balmy days of those months.

I have walked in the foot prints of the elephant, listened to lion roar and met the buffalo on his turf. I shall never be the same.
