HUNTING IN ETHIOPIA

Guys, sorry I haven't been around much, seems like there are lots more deadlines during the summer months. An Ethiopian wildlife biologist, working with the Frankfurt zoological society, Yitbarek Tibebe, has put together an interesting survey with, I think, the desire to make some changes to Ethiopia's game management system. It's a beautiful country with a very small outfitting industry, and a lot of potential is not being utilized. As many of you, Ethiopia is a bit different in that full licenses must be purchased "up front", species by species, and the minimum day requirement is very stringent (thus expensive and not particularly user-friendly). It doesn't matter whether you've hunted Ethiopia or not, or even have any desire to...the issues in the survey are hunter preferences and allocation of game revenues. I don't see anything negative about it all, and a healthy response from experienced hunters as are on this forum might possibly create some changes down the road.
BTW, I have long wondered about the status of Nile lechwe and other game in southwestern Ethiopia (one of several areas not currently hunted). Tibebe sent me some spectacular photos of both Nile lechwe and white-eared kob. They are still there.
To access this survey, go to the website at:

Thanks and all best, Craig

HuttyThank you for the link. As someone who has done a fair bit of cost benefit surveys and analysis, this one is designed quite well and should yield excellent data.

Cazador humildeThank you Craig. The survey is filled out and sent.
Only 40 hunters in a year. Wow, I wouldn't have guessed that.

DLSThat's an interesting survey. Unfortunately, I can't seem to get it to work on my computer when I went to mark my choices.

L. David KeithI couldn't get it to send. He left out the Walmart plan: 28 days @ $29.95 per day.

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

Cazador humildeYou have to download it, probably have to click "allow" one or two times, click "open", click "allow editing" at the top of your browser. Then when you're through marking/entering, click "save" at the top and save it to your documents. Then copy and paste the gentleman's e-mail address into your e-mail program (or clicking on the link at his e-mail address should open your mail program), then attach the document you saved and send.
I'm no IT guy, so if this doesn't work, maybe someone else on here can help.

kiwiwildcatHi there Craig,
I'd just ike to say how much I've enjoy reading your articles on Hunting & Shooting over the years.
When are you coming down to New Zealand again to hunt? I've just landed a job right down in the bottm of the South Island in some of the best hunting areas in New Zealand. I'll finally be able to have a crack at Thar & Chamois plus Stewart Island Whitetail and not forgetting Fiordland Wapiti.
Kind regards,
Michael.
