Amarula is great, it´s been imported to Finland for years -I almost died of schock when I saw it at the state monopoly!

ozhunterI brought four bottles of Amarula into camp this year. Ian Gibson thought Christmas had come early.
Left over bottles made great gifts as every one over there likes it.

RustySpec's in the Houston area sells Amarula!
Good!

D HunterAmazingly it is on sale in our local liquor store here in east podunk NC. It is a bit pricy though at $20 a bottle.
Although cartridge selection is important there is nothing that will substitute for proper first shot placement. Good hunting, "D"

Widowmaker416I always bring home a few bottles. I've seen it at a couple of booze stores here ranging from 26 to 33 dollars a bottle!

Kills me after paying 4 to 8 dollars in Africa! A little more if I want to buy it on the flight home! I think I payed 12 bucks last spring!

Aspen Hill AdventuresThis year on the flight home it was $10 a bottle if I remember correctly. And the bottle stores in RSA were not cheaper than the plane this time. The stores here sell it for $26 to $28 a bottle. The sale price was $19, a real 'steal' comparatively! For local retail, at least.
Amarula is real good poured over vanilla ice cream.

Die Ou JagterYou can't compare prices by say a bottle. Here in Pa it is in the twenties for a fifth (to old timers or 750 ML) and in RSA you can buy a full Liter for about $12 usd. That was a few yrs ago.

scruffyHa! I have two different amigos owing me a bottle of Amarula ! One in Montana, one in British Columbia.

They shot smaller bull elk than I did in '04. I'm sure that I'll collect some day .. but I'll have to spend about five to ten times what the darn bottle is worth in gasoline just to get there and demand my spoils !!! I love Amarula !!!

stagmanHere's an Amarula tip:
I've created a coffee drink of my own. Use one part "Cafe Du Monde", (the chicory based coffee from New Orleans), to one part Amarula.
You can find Cafe Du Monde in Brunos grocery stores in the south. Not sure in other regions, but it comes in a yellow can.
I call the mixture, "Cafe Du Marula" ... best coffee I've ever had ... try it!!!!!

stagmanYou can also get it in U.S Airports with a duty free shop.
Saw it in ATL and Minniapolis airports for, I think it was $16.

Hunt4LifeDelta Airlines now has it on their flights.
I have been buying it for about two months at my local liquer store here in Nashville. I pay $17.99 per litre. Awesome, turned many people on to it. We've been drinking it at deer camp longing for Africa.
Good stuff.

Widowmaker416I just looked in the magazine from SAA, Amarula is $10.00 a bottle, If I remember correctly at Jo'Burg airport it was $12.00.
I tryed to buy 4 bottles on the flight but they would only sell me 2. Told me it was the last two bottles, I think they were trying to tell me nicly that I was only aloud 2!!

I had two more in my carry on

BigBulletAnn,
Here we are in Limpopo this past August and there are many fine memories of our time there. Here is the hunting party with their favorite beverage, me with the Amarula, our friend and PH Lochi with his boxed South African red wine and our friend Bill from south Georgia with his pitcher of sweet tea.
Always a lot of laughs when around the campfire with Lochi.

baboonOne night back in 2000 we decided to party it up in the bush in R.S.A..I made the misstake of drinking a whole bottle of amarula while eating biltong and droewors.I never got sick, but just the sight of the bottle gives me a chill.

KenscoIt's readily available about everywhere I go. I bought one bottle and didn't find it that special.
It sells better than it tastes. It's developed a reputation.
It reminds me of Aniversario rum in Venezuela. It developed a name with Expats because of its distinctive packaging (round bottle, leather pouch). Expats wouldn't order anything else. It cost about $7.00 a bottle. After living in Venezuela a few years I found it was about the fourth best rum in the country.
Pampero wasn't stupid. They still sold the bottle for $7.00 years later, but without the leather pouch. They doubled the price to $14.00 if you wanted the same bottle, same rum, in the pouch. The Expats new to the country still ate it up.
Amarula to me has the same mystic. It ain't that great, in my opinion, but the Expats gobble it up judging by this thread.
Years (and years) ago I could buy all the Billy Beer I could haul away in Houston for $7.50 a case. Hours later I would sell it in West Texas for $15.00. That lasted about a month. After the new wore off people noticed it tasted like crap.

It is obvious to this old retired Irishman who hunted for over 60 years that he has missed something! I never heard of "Amarula" until I fell in with a bad lot like you types!

(and I was never heard to recoil from "aqua vitae", as we Irish who invented the whole thing anyway called "whiskey")

Yeah, I know now from reading your depraved thread that it's some kind of liqueur. Well, we have something better in our hemisphere called "Tia Maria". Keep your "Amarula".

21 December 2005, 00:43
RedlanderLocally, I have found it as cheap as $16.99 per 750mL and this year they have a "gift" box with a brown cup and a gold elephant head and trunk for the handle. My wife got one for her Christmas party and we have another "on standby".
If you are going to carry a big stick, you've got to whack someone with it at least every once in while.
