The rescue effort was admirable, but I'm surprised they could not get a backhoe or similar piece of equipment to the site.

My hats of to Len and the guys. If anyone would know how dangerous a task it was it would be him.

Reading some of the comments made me sick. Sometimes I cant believe how stupid people really can be.

I have walked in the foot prints of the elephant, listened to lion roar and met the buffalo on his turf. I shall never be the same.

I feel for those men. The decision to end a life after desperately struggling to save that life is a hard thing. Ask anyone who has been there with an old dog or horse who has served them faithfully for many years. I believe God uses these heartbreaking times to help us learn that life is precious, and our ability to influence life of death and indeed even choose life or death is a gift that we should respect with great carefulness. The older I get the more introspective I become because of my understanding as expressed above. I think of the wastefulness of my youth with some regret. Glad to be forgiven.
Best regards,

"The liberty enjoyed by the people of these states of worshiping Almighty God agreeably to their conscience, is not only among the choicest of their blessings, but also of their rights."

Is this the Len Taylor who is a PH for Chifuti Safaris? My hat is off to these people who risked life and limb to save an animal.

Len is one of the finest elephant hunters in all of Africa, yet here he is trying to save this life at risk to himself. Another example of a true hunter\conservationist. Also an example of a very fine man in action, doing the right thing. Proud to call that man a friend. Well done Len, you gave it your very best!

Sad. It's been going on for millennia. It was sad then too.

Cheers to the people who tried to help.
