Nice Set of Horns

Dropped by Jonas Bros Taxidermy of Denver yesterday to pick up some shipping tags.

Their new location, just north of the Denver Jail on Havana, is certainly not as nice as the old one in Louisville, but there was still some nice trophies on display.

There was a pair of elephant tusks that looked to be about 6' long. They must have weighed over 100 lbs each. I didn't get a chance to examine them too closely, so it is possible they were fiberglass replicas. Very eye-catching in any event.

What really got my attention, was a set of buffalo horns that were mounted on a metal buffalo skull. The horns had to be close to 46 inches or more and had a boss that was close to 20 inches. One heck of a nice bull. I would love to kill something that nice.

Cheers,

BH63

D.Nelson,

We will make this the Steve Trifecta. Did he also shoot a 50 plus inch sable in Zambia?

That is a great buffalo. I shot a 49" with good bosses but probably 2 years younger. He was plenty mature just not as much character.

That first bull has well worn horns and tips broken/worn. Other old bulls have sharp tips .What life style makes the difference ?

Age makes the difference Mete. About 3 to 4 years from sharp to rounded off and blunt tips even when the boss is hard.

I'm glad there are still a few of the grand old bulls around!

Thanks for the pictures and congratulations on killing such fantastic trophies.

I can't wait until Sep and I get a chance to smell that evil bovine smell once again.
