Main reason for hunting this guy is to get him out of the concession. I have WAY too many bulls there. Other reason IS for the trophy value. The flat skin is incredible, and I'm doing a 1/2 neck pedistal, and the legs are going to hold up a 600 pound jerusalem stone table top for my patio. Thrill of the hunt can be good as well. Not many animals are capable of soaking up the lead a giraffe can take. Thanx for the comments widowmaker! Anyone else interested, I still have 5 big old bulls available for next year, cheap! I'll throw in a mountain reedbok and either a springbok or blesbok for $4400 1x1 for 5 days for 2005 if booked before the first.

Dogcat, I.ve hunted Giraffe a number of times, (with some of my cients, once for me with no sucess I might add!) I can relate to what hhmag is saying. Alsome animals to hunt! Did you ever try to sneak up on one, I mean up close and personal? Why do you need horns for it to be a trophy? I'm going after one for myself next September, I'm counting the days! And the mount is incredable! I'm doing a pedastal mount for a client right now, I'll post a photo when it's done.. hhmag, great trophy! Great going!

Congrats on your bull! I took one a couple of years ago in Namibia and you are correct about them soaking up the lead! I know it's the angle of the photo but that's the shortest neck giraffe I've ever seen!!!! JDS

Little better? The guy holding up the head in the first pic is a weee little guy named Jan, the owner of Witbank Taxidermy, who was moaning a bit about the weight, so he couldn't hold it very high!

Why do like to hunt giraffe? The chase, the nature of the beast, what? No horns, tough to mount. I am curious and never looked a giraffe as a game animal, more like a rock dossie or a woodchuck.

Great photo! Do you have any more? How tall did that particular giraffe stand prior to you mowing it down? Whitworth

THanks for the comments, for whatever reason, I never viewed a giraffe as a "huntable" animal. Not sure why> I will give it a go next year when I go to Zim. Thanks for enlightening me.

I've hunted 7 giraffe now, 6 with clients and one for myself a couple of weeks ago. I've never had such an adrenaline rush hunting non dg in my life! We started just before sunup, and about 20 minutes after dawn broke, we were standing with our backs to a small dam (lake) glassing for the longnecks. I heard a few small splashes behind us and turned to see a young bull ele racing thru the water after us. About an hour and a half later, we blundered into a small herd of white rhino-smallish bull, four cows, four calfs. The bull gave us a few short charges and we were hightailling it out of there, but one of the babies figured us for toys and kept coming up to us, pissing off momma something fierce. Got the giraffe an hour later, but I was shaking like a leaf for the rest of the day. To top it all off, we saw some fresh lion tracks about 30 meters away from where the giraffe fell. Never saw the lion, but I couldn't shake the feeling that were being watched. We left him a nice snack, though. That was some fun!
