Maybe to early for 2015, but I don't want to miss it next year. Had a lot to do this Fall and let it slip up on me.
I was looking at the DART map and wondered if some nice hotels are located near there stations?
I was thinking accommodations in the suburbs would be less expensive and the DART lines go to the convention center.
I hunted with Omujeve Safaris in May 2013 and wanted to see the boys.
Any information on hotels, transportation, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

DSC hotels:

Yes, suburbs will be less expensive, but staying at the Omni is so convenient that the extra few bucks makes it well worthwhile in my simple mind.

Sandy and I got some breakfast stuff and a few lunch snacks (and a bottle of wine and some Scotch) and I'd reckon that the money we saved on lunch and breakfast made up for lots of the difference in the rooms. A three minute walk from the elevator to the show isn't bad at all!

That, and the safety for a spouse who wants to go back to the room alone for a pit stop or whatever, makes it not a bad value at the DSC discount.

I found out this year that by joining the Omni loyalty club or whatever they call it gives you free Wi-Fi and juice and a paper delivered to your room. It's free.

When I've got the wife with me and I'm trying to explain that a $15,000 safari is a really good deal, I'm not going to get very far with the argument that we saved $70 a night on a hotel, especially if the Dalls weather is like it has been several times: ice, wind and even snow.... Roll Eyes

JMHO.

JudgeG ... just counting time 'til I am again finding balm in Gilead chilled out somewhere in the Selous.

Mauser,

I think Judge G. nailed it. This was my first year at DSC and spending a few extra dollars for
a hotel that is close is well worth it. If you plan to spend four days there having the ability to take a break is essential in my opinion. Believe it or not walking the floor for hours and talking to people can be exhausting.

If you plan on bringing a non-hunter along consider a hotel near the convention center as mandatory.

I like the Omni myself, but if he is alone & is looking to save a few bucks, might look at the Comfort Inn.
We stayed at the Magnolia this year, very nice hotel & they have a shuttle that took us wherever we wanted to go, but next year we'll be back at the Omni for most of the reasons Judge stated.
It is just way too convenient.

This was my first time, we stayed at the Holiday End Market Place for $109/d. There is a small café next door that has great home cooking at reasonable prices. There was a shuttle that ran every 15 to 20 min. that worked out great. I would not stay away from the center and drive back and forth, that would be a nightmare. We never moved our car till we headed home.

I have stayed at the Adolphos and the Magnolia. The Magnolia was $210 a night, but that was a queens suite. I waited too long and that's all they had left.
I sure would stay within 5 blocks of the convention center and avoid having to pay for travel twice a day.

Several hotels have shuttle service to & from the conv. They will be listed on DSC conv. website later on.
You can always contact Lynda at the DSC office for help making a decision if needed.

We probably have 30 folks at the Comfort in on Stemmons, $75/night. We meet for breakfast, and have our get-together there on Saturday night in a room the hotel provides up. Plenty of snacks, beer, wine, and hard stuff to go around.

I think I am headed back to the Aloft. That whole valet parking thing at the Omni was a royal pain in the behind.
