Hello everyone..

It seems I found my way into booking a 14 day Leopard, Buff, Hippo, and croc hunt with Munyamadzi safaris..Thor Kirchner.

Ive looked at some of the hunt reports but would like to hear what hunting in the Luangwa is like?

This will be my first trip to Zambia so I'm starting over as a rookie.
Will I be hunting heard's or bachelor bulls? Any and all info would be appreciated.

I'll be taking a 375 and my Heym 450/400

Hunt will be Aug 1st-14th

Munyamadzi is quite small. It has some nice buff. Likely it will be in herds from my experience and what I have heard.

I haven't hunted Munyamadzi, but have hunted the Lungwa valley twice.

The walking isn't that tough, but there are some valleys and ravines in the area.

August should be reasonably temperate, but it gets really hot in October and November.

Lots of varieties of plains game. The impala are generally not as big as they are in some other spots (like Tanzania) but expect to see lots of varieties of animals. Not sure if they have Cookson's wildebeest where you are going as they are a bit spotty.

Hippo hunting was a matter of expidency for me... Lion bait. There are lots around, but they stick to the river. Not a great place to hunt them on dry land in my experience.

Buffalo will likely be both in herds and dagga boys. Likely dagga boys in August more so than herd hunting, but your PH will tell you more on that.

You will be in for a treat there!

Probably one of the finest spots in Zambia for your desired species. Munyamadzi has also taken on some communal lands and have extended their boundaries. Extremely scenic and very wild. Lots of game and the camp is first class.

Thor has taken some very serious buffalo and a mix from herds and bachelor groups.

I personally would add Roan, Kudu and Bushbuck to your bag.

AR's D. Unger took a brute of a Leopard there this year and a 44 inch buffalo. It would be worth calling him up.

I hunted the North Luangwa in October. It was hot, with a few showers occasionally. Easy country to hunt, very pretty country. Enjoy!!

I hunted with Thor on the Munya about 5 or 6 years ago. Of my 6 trips to Africa it was the one was one of the best. The camp is great as well as the food. Game is in abundance all around. We hunted buffalo and took a good bull from a herd. I know their buff numbers are better than they were then. Let me know if I can help you with anything else.

Heym

Early Aug will be very pleasant on the Luangwa. I've done two long safari there and had quite a few clients hunt there. It is my favorite safari destination and I'm sure you'll love it.

Heym, you are in for a great hunt with Thor. I did this hunt in September and had a great time. Plenty of leopard and some very good buffalo.

Like Andrew said, you would do well adding Roan, kudu and especially bushbuck if you are interested.

Munyamadzi is small compared to the GMA concessions in Zambia. But really it is all relative. What matters is the density of wildlife and responsible quotas. For example we have more buffalo on small Munyamadzi than there are in some of Zambias biggest concessions which are over a million hectares.

Here is a teaser. Got this photo a yesterday 5 minutes walk out of camp.

If there are any Puku around, it would be a great animal to take, as there are not many places to hunt them

Thor:

I'm booked or committed (or nearly so -- my wife says I should be committed now) until nearly then, but I suppose his daddy might still be wandering around somewhere.

Some info would be appreciated, at your convenience. No rush. But, he's going to be great in a few years.
