Have any AR members hunted Peter Johnstone's Cawston Block property lately? I'm planning a trip to take my lady friend over to Africa for her first time in 2018. It'll largely be a vacation that includes a few days at Vic Falls, but I'd like to do a bit of hunting on the trip and thought it might be wonderful to visit and hunt with Peter Johnstone, whom I haven't seen in quite a while.

How is the hunting there, specifically for eland and bushbuck?

A friend and I hunted there in 2016. Wonderful people and lots of game. I visited Peter then and this year and he is doing fine. Same wonderful sense of humor. Cawston won't let you down.

Interesting as I emailed them a couple of times and never even got a reply.

Maybe they didn't go through, but it looked like it on my computer. Thought maybe they were not in business any longer.

I bowhunted it in 2012. A hunting buddy joined me.
It was a great place.
Peter had coffee with us most morning and was a great guy to talk with.
That was my first safari and it was just great. I took warthog, kudu, zebra, blue wildebeest, and impala.
My friend took similar.
I think Peters daughter, Julia kinda runs the place the last I heard. She had a booth at DSC in 2014. I have not been back to DSC since then

I hunted there in 2015 and 2016. I took my wife in 2016. Had a great time. Ate lunch and dinner every day with Peter and family. I hunted every day while my wife went on hikes, shopping and touring around the countryside. We also went to Vic Falls, did a boat ride on the Zambezi, shopping, etc...

Thanks guys, that's most of what I wanted to know. It's as much, or nearly so, about visiting with Peter as anything.

How are the eland on his place?

A friend shot an eland there in 2016 that was so damn big I though Peter had imported the Cameroon species (LDE)! Yesterday I saw the skull and horns as his taxidermy came in. I wanted to offer my .600 Wilkes in trade for it!
