Bill, Congratulations again! I've got to get to that part of Africa some day. ____________________________________________ "Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life." Terry Pratchett.

Nice shooting on the kob and buff, Bill - I can see where the bullets struck. Did you borrow that Steyr-Mannlicher/Schmidt & Bender set up? Nice rig. You are making my "Africa itch" much worse this morning! Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

Very nice...I would love to get to W Africa... How is the Grimms Duiker different to the Grey (Common) Duiker of Southern Africa? The common is named after Grimm (a German biologist I understand) hence the name Sylvicapra grimmia which literally means Grimm's forest goat. From your pic they look the same, so is the name Grimm's duiker just a regional version of the common name? Thanks

Bill, when you do start writing the long version of your hunt report, I would be most interested in your feelings about the differences in hunting in Francophone Central Africa versus Eastern and Southern Africa. I look forward to it. _________________________________ AR, where the hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history become the nattering nabobs of negativisim.

MR - How the heck did you know the rifle and scope!?!? Impressive! Yes, it was the camp loaner and dead-accurate. I'll detail all this in the report, but the .375 really punches a hole. On the buffalo it penetrated a decently-sized sampling which was a foot or less in front of him, yet the Norma bullet was still found expanded in the opposite shoulder (hence the large entry would). Unfortunately, I hit the Grimm's too well on a slightly quartering shot and the exit is nasty due to the shoulder bone fragments (they may be able to scarf a replacement cape though). Kayaker - I don't really know. On my price list from the outfitter, they are referred to as "Grimm's Duiker (Cephalophus Grimmia)". But when I looked at the Duiker (Cephalophinae) species on http://www.wild-about-you.com/AfricaGame.htm before my trip, I could not find this exact name. The closest is Sylvicapra grimmia coronata (Western Bush Duiker) which if you look at the distribution seems to match although the coats are slightly different (mine looks more brownish then red and more like the southern - but they were not as tall/leggy nor did any sport near the horn length of the ones I have seen in the south). Adam Clements hunted next door last year, and considered his to be the Western Bush, so this is what I am using for trophy sizing/comparison unless somebody can substantiate otherwise. On the ground they were called "Grimm's" and "Common" interchangeably - I think both are the generic names used throughout Africa for the savannah (as oposed to the forest) duikers based on what I have read. Maybe best to go with the local language, where the are known as amofourde. Wink - Will do!

Darn nice trophies, Bill. The Lord Derby is a stunner and the Kob is absolutely huge! Look forward to your report.
