I have never hear of Rogue boots, nor could I find a reference on the web. Can you point me to a web site?

Does anybody have any experience with the Chippewa Safari Lace-up Boots from Cabela's? I was looking for a good back-up pair for an Ele hunt in May.

cewe,

No your not the only fan of Rogues, I have a pair, they are very good boots for the money.

I have the R2's or whatever they are, I paid about 60-70 bucks for mine, not as Sexy as Courteny's, but more confortable and every bit as well made in my opinion, and I have Courtneys also.

I would have to say hands down the best boot for my money.

BWN300mag,
I have a pair of Chippaway packers, that I wear in Idaho to hunt in...They are a bit heavy for Africa but sure do give you a lot of support in the rough Idaho back country...and they are great for horseback and foot hunting combo...I have worn them in Africa also and got by fine. Keep in mind that you can get them in Bison leather and that is tougher and more supple...H-C also makes some good soft high top boots with Crepe type souls for a great price...They worked great in Africa for me...

but for Africa, I want the lightest shoot possible, Danner Radials are my latest African shoe, It is just a leather tennis type walking shoe..I wear a short gaitor with them..and they dry out fast if we have to wade a pond or canal in the high grass.

Always wear gaitors to keep those damn grass seeds out of the socks, even with high top boots, as they will bore into your skin and creat huge absesses that heal slowly and scar like hell..My ankles are a multitude of scars...

My other suggestion is Wranglers, Levis or whatever brand you like, forget the shorts and Khaki thing, your an American not an African, at least in the buggy areas, A Tetsi can inflict a mortal wound!! in fact several hundred mortal wounds! and a pair of Khakis won't stop a Tetsi bite, Levi material will most of the time...Chain mail is even better in close weave!

I am not a Kangaroo boot fan, from Browning or Cabela's. I have had terrible luck with their durability.

Ray mentioned Georgia boots. I was pretty impressed with a pair of Georgia boots that I wore on an upland bird hunt in Montana and later going through briar patches in the South. They are reasonably priced (cheap). They lasted about two years compared to 1/2 year for the Kangaroo's.

The Rogue US/Canadian distributor doesn't carry footwear. They are checking to see if the distributor in England can ship here. That could get expensive!

SBT,

Email Trevor, he is the owner of Rogue if I'm correct, tell him what you want and he will ship it to you. I would get the R-5, I think that what I have, whatever the top of the line is. Last ones I bought I called them up and told them what I wanted they made them and shipped them to me. They even made a pair for my wife, can't remember which ones.

The R5's with the gaiters sewn to the top are nice too.

Thanks for the info Ray, all reads like sound advise. I was planning (trying to plan) a Kansas City Cabela's trip in the next month or so. I am sure I will be able to find a good back-up pair of boots while I am there. As for gaitors, I have a pair of the nylon and I am having a pair for myself, the "worthless" PH in Zim, and PWN375, constructed out of Filson oil finished tin cloth (old pair of chaps). May be a bit warm, but nothing will be able to get through them (hopefully).
