Given the two options, I have to pick the 550.

1) it's bigger and more easily accepts cartridges of "DG" sizes

2) magazine capacity. Depending on caliber, the 550 will hold at least one more cartridge than the Interarms and most cases it will hold two more.

Neither rifle is ready out of the box. It really depends on what cartridge you want and how many of them you need in the magazine.

The Mk X will need to be tweaked for anything that's not a 375 or 458 WM, and costs will mount quickly. The 550 comes already set up for in several true DG cartridges from the factory, but it has a sheet-metal magazine box.

If I could find a Mk X in 458 I would not turn my nose up at it, but I'd prefer a 550 in 458 Lott.

I would use the Mark X, but it would also depend on the caliber of DGR...I really like the Mauser actions for all my hunting...I recently built a nice 404 on the CZ and it was a decent gun but just too bulky for my taste, it was more suited to be a 505 or 500 Jefferys.

I have use the Mark X many times for the 375, 416 and 404..I have Dennis Olson tig up the front feed ramp and open it 100% in the rear then slightly open the ramp about a hundred thousands...surface grind the action and stone the Mark X stuff of the side of the action, slick it up all around, Blackburn or canjar trigger, M-70 3 pos. safty, makes a nice gun.

I have a MK X in 458 and it has served me well but I did put quite a bit of money into it. By the time you get the 3 poition safety, new trigger, slick up the feeding and proper bedding you'll probably have $400-$500 bucks in it. Personally I think the MK X makes a nicer rifle than the CZ 550 just because the CZ seems big, bulky and too heavy to me. The MK X seems as handy as any of my other mauser type rifles in much smaller calibers.

Regards,

Mark

I like the CZ 550 a great deal. The permanatly milled onto the barrel sights are terrific. It does need a bit of 'smithing though. Warne QD scope mounts are available for it, which I use and as per my post regarding your question on model 700's, There is a Gunsmith in Seattle who makes and installs model 70 type safety's and triggers for the 550. This, with a little 'slicking up' makes for an excellent DGR in my opinion. I have carried my 550 all over Alaska, Zimbabwe and RSA, never found the weight objectionable. In fact, in a heavy recoil gun the weight is about right in my opinion.
