"Wipe Out" Part-ll

Well I finnaly got my hands on this stuff, and since I promised the guy on the phone I'd post about my results, for good or ill, here is my experience.

First off I cleaned these barrels as far as I could with standard cleaners before my WipeOut came. Mostly I used Butches Bore Shine and a lot of brushing and elbow grease. This is my standard cleaning regime as I dont like the stuff with ammonia in it.

I got good results with Wipe Out, but I did have to let it sit in the barrel for an hour to get any meaningful copper removal from the barrel. This may , or may not, be standard on the fireing range. I dont know, I havnt brought the stuff out yet, so I cant comment on its usefullness on the range. Tho clearly if it take a 1 hour soak to clean the barrel its usefullness is limited.

But I will never be without the stuff again, even if I mostly use it at home for my final cleaning, and even if It DOES take a 1 hour soak to work. It is a great product if it does allow the full cleaning of a barrel of copper, and it does do so with great ease and safety.

I'd rate the stuff as a "must have"..................J

Sounds good to me Jhook. My usual procedure is just to remove powder fowling at the range. I do the copper at home, usually by soaking the barrels overnight with Hoppe's #9, giving it a good scrub with JB's and then thoroughly cleaning with Sweets 7.62 afterward.

Sounds like this stuff may be just the thing for me. I'll be so happy to see the tiger stripes gone from my "clean" barrels. Apparently my cans are in the mail, and I am waiting to see how long Canada customs takes this time.

I'm still ecstatic about this stuff as well-- it really does work as advertised, though it can be messy to use. And it can be difficult to get the barrel full without making really large puddles of foam on the ground.

I'll agree with Jhook about the time it takes to work. It's not ideal for quick removal of copper, at least not in a heavily fouled barrel. It does take a few hours to remove the stripes. Overnight, though, it does work wonders.

I am a new dealer and have yet to get my order in but...instructions say: "Simply apply the foam to the muzzle or to the chamber ( with the use of a bore guide)until the bore is full. Set firearm on bench horizontally. Let it sit for 10 minutes. Heavily fouled guns or those cleaned with other products should be left OVERNIGHT for first cleaning." and it goes on with other instuctions.

Hi Gents,
The ten minute application is after you have gone through the procedure it takes to get your barrel clean the first time. It seems that most users have thought that their barrels were clean when they really were not. Every time you shoot that gun after you thought it was clean was only making it worse .this is why you have been seeing results after an hour or four hours or overnight. Once you've got it clean and go to the range again then see how long it takes to clean. You won't be dissapointed.

Wipe-Out contains MEA, which is easily absorbed by the skin.

Wear your rubber/latex gloves, don't sniff it, and keep it out of your eyes.

I relate Butches Bore shine to cool water, it about as effective...

As I said I was not impressed with the wipe out and then someone asked if I used wipe out or some of the other stuff thats simular and I really didn't know so I bought some wipe out the other day and I will let you know the results..

I compare all cleaners to BarnesX cleaner, I figure they have fouled more Bores than all the rest of the bullet makers put together and should be experts at removing copper..

Barnes cleaner is very strong and will sometimes eat a barrel up if left too long or forgotten, or so I have been told..I know it sure works..probably kills customers with lung scourge also, use it outside would be good advise..I always open the doors, but I'm old enough that I don't have to worry about such stuff anymore, hell I'm going to start drinking, smoking, and chewing again when I turn 75 and see if I can get it over with and have some fun doing it....

As I promised in my first post, I got some wipe out as the first foam cleaner I tried may have been another product...

This time I was very satisfied with the results which means whoever suggested that I had tried another brand was correct, and thank ?? for the heads up...

Hi Ray

Could you tell us the name of the first foam cleaner you tried?

I ask because I can't get WipeOut here in Sweden, but am considering trying Forrest Bore Cleaning foam (in case it is the same product marketed under different names in different countries -- there are not so many foam bore cleaners, so I wonder...!)

For that matter, has anyone tried Forrest Bore Cleaning Foam and can report?

I bought and used some "Forrest" bore cleaning foam last year. It did not seem work in a hot barrel? That's my only experience with a foam cleaner. I went back to Sweet's. I have better things to do than wait for my bore cleaner to work. Just my opine.

Thanks to MBogo for a good suggestion, he is the one who realized that I may have used another foam cleaner...and it was Forrest and I was not particularly impressed with it..It will clean, but not nearly as well as wipe out does.

jpb,
Forrest works for me like no other thing. I have found that leaving it 1 hour instead of the recommended 15 minutes no traces of copper are left in the barrel.
If you want to see it work, put some on a piece of copper and see what happens.
