Not much joy on the other forum, this one has the most traffic...! Hope you can help 2 questions?

1)Did the CZ ZKK 602 ever come out in .404Jeff?
I am sure I saw one more than 10 years ago...I am talking about the pre-80's models that still had the pop-up peep sight on the bridge.

Anybody know?

I have a partial hankering that they also chambered it in 8x68S in that era?? (I am aware that they did chamber some in .358NM? Just remember this!)

I can't find info online or anyone I know that has one!

Alf...you out there?

2) I have recently seen photos of std length M98 and derivative actions (eg zastava/Mark X /Interarms/whitworth and FN's etc) chambered for full length H&H bsed cartridges (mostly .375 and .300) where the smiths cut away the feedramp area and not just the rear to accomodate the longer COL. This leaves really bugger all metal for the right/bottom lug to brace against when in battery. How common is this practice? Its seems a bit dodgy? or am I misinterpreting the whole thing? I was under the impression that they only ever cut the rear away so as not to compromise action intergrity. My only M98 based rifles have been for the .30-06 family. my only .375 was ZKK602, so I was not aware of this.

I am no Mauser expert, but a fan! Whats the difference between the C and H configuration?

If someone could steer me to a web resource that would be great.

Cheers

The 602 was chambered in 358 Norma Mag and 8x68. I have one in 8x68.

Thanks ALF,

My memory of that rifle is fuzzy as I just remember it being very worn and bashed up but something tells me it was a .404. Back then I never took too much notice as I thought it was a really obscure cartridge (mind you in 1989 it was in the popularity doldrums compared to today, especially in embargo era SA?).

I have always been a fan of 98's and their offspring and lament selling my ZKK602 now!

I was wondering...I read your post that the Zasatava (and its various other names) is an 'H' configuration as opposed to a 'C'...what is this? Refering to the cutting away of the feedramp.

Can you recommend any good web resources for mauser/BRNO history. Physical ones (I am actyally curently in Canada doing some grad study work in Edmonton...).

Thanks, enjoy the posts and history. Just love classic Euro and UK 'african rifles' in metric calibres!

Cheers
