Gents,

I have in front of me a book called "Nyati- a guide to Hunting Zimbabwes Most Dangerous Big Game" by Doctari aka Keven Roberston.

Is this the same book as you guys are taking about?

Regards,

Pete

After SCI this year I read the book NYATI published by African Hunter magazine and found it to be excellent in all respects.

I got a couple of copies and, after reading one, gave them to fellows going buffalo hunting for the first time. I couldn't recommend it higher.

I concur - an excellent book. I hope that this is the first of a series. Next, how about elephant?

They should add a chapter on the wonders of the 45-70 agains buff.

Then it would be a good book.

I agree a must read with lots of info for every one. I got my copy from the mag set office in Harare. I dont think there is atopic that has been overlooked, a very well planned and thought out piece of work. Also I think at a very reasonable price tag.
Ineed to get a job like the people at African hunter I can only imagine the fun they had researching for the book

500grains,

Generally speaking it is an excellent book.

I know the authors, so I am pre-disposed to favor their work. Heck, my picture is in there too (p.290)

I didn't like the way some of the quoted material is presented: I would favor making the font different, for example, to set the text off from what the authors are writing.

I also would edit out the material that claims that ventricular heart shots kill buff with hydrostatic shock.

It is definitely worth the price.

I also very much enjoyed the read. My only comment to the negative would be the fact a hardbound edition was not available. I was event lucky enough to have Mr. Heath, MR. Williams and MR. Blauwkamp, thanks Terry, sign a edition for me (thanks Allen @African Hunter). I agree it would be nice to see this lead to a series of books.

HunterJim,
Have just checked page 290 and there are five people on the pick up.
There is a sort of seat on the front bull bar would you be able to tell me what that seat is used for? I am trying to build a bush car for myself and I have never seen that sort of arrangemrnt in Zambia.

I don't think it will take that long. For now, orders are being shipped from the US office while supplies last.

After reading it, I lent my copy to my dad so I cannot look at the picture. Are you able to post it?

Thanks.

Zambian,

The vehicle configuration is used by Shangaan Hunters in Zimbabwe's low veld, and I suppose elsewhere. One of the trackers sits on that seat and examines the dirt road and shoulders for sign. We frequently found leopard and other spoor, as well as the more common buff sign.

500grains,

Ant Williams took the original photo on a hunt in Zin in '01. The photo in the book is B/W, and not really all that great in resolution. I will see what I can do.

500grains,

Ant sent me a file of the photo. I put it up in an album on image station, but I haven't figured the juju to make it display here.

I ordered my book on 2/26/04 and it arrived yesterday 3/16/04. That is about 3 weeks and it was shipped from Texas. I ordered it off of the website for African Hunter. It is actually named "Nyati- The Art of Hunting African Buffalo" which is a different book from "Nyati" by Doctari Robinson.

It looks like a good book and well given me some interesting reading.
