1st TimerConventions - SCI vs DSC
Greetings All,
Was thinking about a change of pace this year - I have been to the last 3 or 4 SCI conventions and was thinking of going to the DSC this year. Any thoughts/opinions/pros/cons would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Die Ou JagterI went to the SCI last year for the first time and I enjoyed myself but deceided to go to Dalles in Jan.. People say Dallas is more laid back. The Reno show reminded me of Harrisburg Pa but not quite as big but more high rollers.

Terry BlauwkampI go to DSC rather than SCI.

lb404DSC is THE biggest bang for the buck you can find. It has at least 60+% of the relevant exhibitors at less than 10%of the cost. Those Texans really know how to put on a show and just plain be nice to deal with. No high fees, no BS.

WillIt is comparing apples and oranges. DSC is quite subdued compared to SCI, and a day is enough. SCI requires at least 2 days, and everybody is there.
Dallas is a lot warmer than Reno in January!

SBTI've been to both and now only go to Dallas. It is more laid back, but plenty big. It is also a hell of alot less money. But the main reason is that more AR guys go and we have a great party one night and all go out to dinner another night. It is a good time!

RBHuntThe DSC convention gives me pretty much all I need. They make people feel welcome to be there. Don't know when I will go back to the SCI convention if ever.

lb404The SCI has alienated a lot of working class folks that think that the "juice isn't worth the squeeze". If they continue to pander only to the rich they will loose their base of the average American. Please don't shoot the messenger or talk about all the good they do. We know they do a lot of good. They just need to do BETTER?

lb404Perhaps Harry Hunter or some of our fine friends in the Dallas area will kindly provide some of the particulars about the show dates as well as good areas to look for housing.
Are we having an AR dinner?? If so I would like a place for two or three. If I am lucky enough I might let you paw print my new Searcy Classic double rifle which should be ready by then!!!!!

CaretakerDSC has a room rate at the Hilton Anatole. It's right across I35 from the convention and it's where the DSC banquets are being held. I personally recommend that hotel.

billinthewildPlanning to take my Grandson to DSC this coming year. Good to hear all the fine things being said about it.
Hilton Anatole....not familiar with Dallas. Can you walk across or would you have to drive....

Bryan ChickThere is no shortage of hotel/motels in Dallas. you don't have to stay at the Anatole. We fly in from St. Thomas, rent a car and find the closest hotel we can. Normally, we pay between $35/45.00 per night.
Most outfitters we know say that they pretty well sell out at Dallas, but, feel that the must be seen at Reno.
I am a Texan whose Grandfather cautioned me to stay away from Dallas. His reasoning was that Dallas is populated by $10,000.00 millionaires, but, Grandad thought that if you could not pay cash for it, you could not afford it! Probably correct even today, but, for my money, we will stick with DSC
